Roku has gone with the ‘if it isn’t broke’ approach to navigation. There’s barely any difference between the RC630K’s interface and that of a standard Roku dongle. Which is far from a bad thing. Skipping between the myriad of channels and apps is a doddle, and can be done either using the remote control or Roku’s smartphone companion app. Plenty of the biggest streaming apps come pre-installed, and there are plenty more available to install, including all of the major ones. The biggest headache for UK viewers will be that the versions of the ITVX and All4 apps don’t support live TV streaming as it stands, only catch-up content, so to watch either live you’ll need either traditional TV access or to stream the content to the TV from a laptop. Fortunately the BBC iPlayer app doesn’t suffer the same restriction.

They make it possible to deliver a level of colour reproduction, detail and depth which are unrivalled by any other LED or OLED TV. In general, settings are also cleanly and clearly laid out, so it shouldn’t ever take too long to find the option you want and make tweaks as appropriate. Picture settings can be set for the TV as a whole, or tweaked for each individual image source, and there’s a friendly set of simple controls to go through before delving into more complex fine-tuning. Picture and sound quality The only real annoyance with the port selection is that every input is on the right-hand side of the TV, so if a specific setup or short cables, you may need to re-tool things slightly to suit the set. The HDMI ports also don’t include HDMI 2.1 support, but since the TV is capped to 4K and 60Hz anyway, that really shouldn’t be an issue. The C635Kis designed to be a smart TV that's easy to use and looks great on your wall. It has a clean, modern look with a slender bezel that creates an immersive viewing experience. A major USP for the RC630K, and pretty much all of TCL’s UK-bound TVs, is built-in Roku streaming. TCL has partnered with Roku for the RC630K series, which combine TCL’s TV tech with Roku’s popular software and interface. All RC630K sets feature Dolby Audio as standard, courtesy of the built-in Onkyo speakers. It comes with Dolby Atmos, and easily fills a modest sized room with crisp dialogue and gives a decent depth of sound when watching epics like All Quiet on the Western Front. Sound bars and external speakers will be a noticeable step up, but as a straight-out-the-box set the sound is impressive. The RC630K offers Spotify at the touch of a button, and while it won’t cut the mustard for avid listeners, it’ll more than suffice for an at-home karaoke session. TCL Roku TV RC630K verdict The first thing we notice as the delivery driver helps carry the set inside is how remarkably light the unit is. 12kg without the stand, to be exact. It comes in a smooth brushed metal finish, and the only sign the RC630K is a Roku set is when you switch the thing on. A super slim design makes the 55in set a little easier to manoeuvre around the room, and won’t look shabby mounted on your wall either. The four-pronged stand is sturdy. Two legs, each with two pronged feet, can be screwed in either close together (22in) or far apart (40in) to make space for a soundbar, or to squeeze onto a tiny TV cabinet. It’s a refreshing change from the chunky central stands found on many rivals, however the legs don’t allow the set to swivel. The TCL Android TV C635Kis the latest model in the series, following the C725K. It’s better at handling performance and has a more advanced display. The TCL RC630K is an absolute winner. It’s rare to get such strong specs at a price this low, especially in 50in+ screen sizes, and to have it paired with strong software feels truly special.
