With 16 onboard patterns, each storing sound parameters and motion recordings, the sequencer is as instantly appealing as any Volca. The extra performance features turn this model into a credible stand-alone instrument, but even as a MIDI module, it could earn its keep. If supplied in conjunction with any Korg instrument or equipment, such Third Party Software shall only relate to the non-essential functions of such instrument or equipment. When the pitch knob is turned all the way to the left, the resonant waveform can be played chromatically. To best exploit this capability, the 16 step keys are laid out like a keyboard, its range just over an octave (A-C). It’s a pleasant experience to play bass lines, melodic patterns and so on from a machine that delights in trashing preconceptions almost as much as it enjoys exercising your sub.Sequence effects include the roll function that plays a sound repeatedly, the octave function that raises the pitch by one or two octaves, and the sustain function that immediately maximises the amp decay. These are great ways to create punchy and powerful breaks. This warranty shall however only apply to the latest version of the Licensed Program (provided that Korg has reasonably made such version available to you) and shall not apply to any previous version or versions of the Licensed Program. Korg provides no warranty in relation to any Third Party Software supplied and all warranties whether express or implied as to the condition, quality, performance, merchantability or fitness for purpose of the Third Party Software or any part of the same are (in so far as may be permitted by law) hereby excluded. A built-in loop sequencer with up to 16 steps allows you to record your performance on the keyboard as you play with the ability to store up to sixteen sequence patterns on the internal memory.

You may not duplicate, alter, modify, rent, lease, resell, assign, loan, sub-license, distribute the whole or part of the Licensed Program, or make derivative works based on what is contained in the Licensed Program. (However, it is not included in this restriction that you create derivative works based on the data file(s).) Korg may on occasions supply software programs, data files and/or documentation belonging to a third party or parties (hereinafter collectively referred to as “Third Party Software”).If any part of this Agreement is found by a court of competent jurisdiction or other competent authority to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable then such part shall be severed from the remainder of this Agreement which will continue to be valid and enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by law. As well activating rolls, octave shifts and sustain, you can switch into Touch FX mode and use them interactively. Touch FX takes all the printed functions — roll, octave shift, sustain and the motion sequence controls — and applies them in a non-destructive way for as long as you touch a key or keys. With practice, you can apply a roll, shift pitch by an octave and disable slides and accents all at once, assuming your fingers stretch to all the desired keys. Using Touch FX was one of the occasions when I felt the smooth ribbon keyboard wasn’t quite so performance-friendly as a series of buttons would have been, but it’s still fun. The Touch FX don’t appear to be quantised, though, and with my usual clumsiness I managed to set off rolls that didn’t always sound right, especially if I hit a triplet by mistake. I noticed that when notes are being received from the MIDI input, activating Touch FX disables their reception, so it appears to be a function tied to the internal sequencer. Regardless of this minor limitation, Touch FX offers fresh ways to mute notes, fast-repeat them, mask the effect of accent and so on. These are great ways to create punchy and powerful breaks. You can create and manipulate a huge range of sounds using the onboard simple yet extremely effective parameters. Korg furthermore disclaims all responsibilities for direct, derivative, collateral or consequential damages caused by the use of or the inability of using the Third Party Software (including but not limited to damage of data, lost commercial profit, interruption of work, lost commercial information), regardless of the degree of damages, and even if Korg was aware of the possibility of such damages in advance.The core of the Volca Drum’s character, however, comes from its ‘Wave Guide’ resonator. This is set up as a global send effect, allow each layer to be sent to it by an independently controllable amount. The Wave Guide itself has three controls: Tune, for the pitch of the effect, Decay, controlling its length, and Body, which alters the timbral characteristics. There are two varieties of resonator available too, switchable between Tube and String styles. The results that can be achieved using this resonator sound fantastic, ranging from odd faux-reverb effects to pitched tonal stabs and spiralling, modulated decays. Korg shall not be obliged to provide support services for any Third Party Software supplied (whether relating to operating methods, defects, or otherwise). A Volca sample features an easy swing and can load more samples. Its powerful workflow and ease of sampling make the Volca sample better than drum machines in some situations. All references to the Licensed Program shall mean the object code only of the program(s) comprising the Licensed Program. Being the oldest released version, this device proved inferior to the newer categories regarding performance and features. You agrees that the express obligations and warranties made by Korg in this Agreement are (so far as is permitted by law) in lieu of and to the exclusion of any other warranty, condition, term, undertaking or representation of any kind, express or implied, statutory or otherwise, relating to anything supplied or services provided under or in connection with this Agreement including (without limitation) any warranty as to the condition, quality, performance, merchantability or fitness for purpose of the Licensed Program and the Services or any part of them. The license created by this agreement is personal to you and you may not assign or otherwise transfer your rights or obligations under this agreement without the prior written consent of Korg.In general, I recommend choosing the Volca Drum if you want the highest sound quality and versatility. This category is the latest released and also the most modern one among the four product lines. The PCM and Analog synthesis provide decent sound quality, but it is not as excellent as the other product lines.
