About this deal
Boon Note: I don’t think this should be discounted. The hey-day of Cloudstrike was shortly after Phoenix Rising where I wouldn’t blink at spending 4-6 CP to deepstrike some vehicles against a bad matchup. Today though it still has use with things like the Lynx which is an actually good vehicle option if a bit… Forgeworldy. Fate’s Messenger: Gives you +1 wound and a 6+ Feel No Pain. Boring, but if you have nothing better to do it isn’t bad. C+ Realistically, unless you’re doing something clever, Seer of the Shifting Vector is a massive standout, and if one of the others is right for you then it’ll probably be pretty obvious. Relics The founder of the Fire Dragons, Phoenix Lord Fuegan exists only to vent his rage on his foes in the form of terrifying billows of flame. With thousands of years of experience of war, Fuegan is a terrifying foe on the battlefield, striding forth to setall to fire and ruin in his quest to destroy the enemies of the Aeldari.
Eldar wouldn’t be Eldar without psychic powers, and we’re happy to report that this remains true in 9th edition. With three different Psychic Disciplines, there’s a colossal number of psychic abilities to choose from. Particularly noteworthy is Protect/Jinx, a Runes of Battle ability that gives a friendly unit +1 to saving throws or -1 to an enemy. Brushes: at least three—a small layer brush, a medium layer brush, and a medium basecoat brush. Stay away from bargain brands. They’ll only betray you.
Craftworlds Eldar Lore
Finally, you’ll want your units to stay alive. We’d recommend a Wave Serpent for this. A dedicated transport ship that’s equipped with a shield, its durability will keep all cargo in its levitating troop belly happy.
So in conclusion, this set is like the infantry-brother of the Start-Collecting set. You get your first Troop choice, a cheap HQ and a Transport. While these boxes are discussed here like they are "rivals" the truth is that they complement each other perfectly. The Spiritseer really adds to the Wraiths, the Wave Serpent can be used both with Wraiths and Infantry and the Guardians are there to fill out your basic troop needs. Other groups of Aeldari cling to existence, including the Harlequins – who travel the Webway (an ancient network of safe* tunnels through the warp) acting as diplomats, performers, and mercenaries, and the Ynnari – who worship the half-reborn god of death as a means to finally thwart Slaanesh and recapture the Aeldari souls it ate during the Fall. Why play them: They’re random and hilarious. Set your units in the direction of the opposition, and then charge them directly in. Laugh maniacally when an Ork slaughters a Space Marine Terminator at one eighth the points cost. This totals up to a huge number of options, especially as each power in the Runes of Battle is actually two!Eldar relics are kind of naff. They’re an early codex and it shows. There are a few gems (including one literal one), but many are very skippable, and the weapons in particular are mostly wildly behind the curve of modern competitors. So what is the downside of this Battalion? From a monetary perspective, it is quite expensive. Rangers are the last Troop choice GW sells that does not come in plastic leading you to a price of 26€/5 guys (which is the same as Dire Avengers). The models are all mono-pose and Resin which is generally not desirable. From a gameplay perspective the Alaitoc trait is great. But it forces a certain playstyle - it only works if you are further away than 12" meaning you will only be able to reliably use long range weapons. So no Wraithguards or Wraithblades, no Guardians, no Shining Spears. Mark of the Incomparable Hunter: Ignore Look Out Sir. Used to be powerful with missile-toting autarchs or Wraithseers, but updates over time have killed both those combos, leaving this with no real use case. D Farseers get access to this Discipline, and while the powers only have one effect each they’re some spicy, spicy stuff in here.
Cloudstrike (1CP) : Deep strike a VEHICLE with FLY, but cannot be used if you are using Webway Strike. Very few uses for this at the moment – the kinds of vehicles you’d plan to use this on are out of favour, and Strategic Reserves will often be a suitable substitute. Given many lists will have a Webway Strike target, that leaves this pretty niche. C+ So trying to go with my initial rating system, I´d rate him a (B+) - and he only scraped into the B-category because of his degrading profile. Depending on your Craftworld trait, he´s a straight A (Alaitoc!). All in all it´s a great unit that combines mobility, damage output and a surprising resilience. The following builds using these have some real merit, and should be starting points for many lists: Overview: Every human-colonized planet has to provide soldiers to the Astra Militarum (also known as the Imperial Guard). There are so many recruits, they’re considered more expendable than ammunition. Tanks, artillery, rows of conscripts, hardened veterans, and sheer power through the weight of numbers: this is the Astra Militarum’s mantra. Building your own Craftworlds Eldar army, regardless of how you play them on the battlefield, is a pure joy. Eldar models are delicate, beautifully balanced, and can veer into the territory of artwork when painted right. Any Eldar army you build will bring you deep pleasure to simply look at, and that’s something that can’t be understated when approaching an army.Linked Fire (1CP) : We’ll explain this in the Fire Prism section. If you have them, you’re spamming this. B+ Stratagem – Court of the Young King – 2CP: An ASPECT WARRIOR unit gets +2″ to their charges and re-rolls hits of 1 if they make combat. Alternatively, if they use this within 6″ of the Avatar, get +3″ and re-roll failed hits instead.
Why play them: Deploy your units, insert tank shells and ordnance into your enemies’ nether regions, and use your infantry as human walls. Astra Militarum coined the phrase “leaf blower army,” in the sense that playing them is like starting up a leaf blower, pointing it at the tabletop, and blowing your opponent’s models off it. All three forms of Farseer see some play, with bikers being the most common, foot as the second and Eldrad coming in third just because Ulthwe isn’t that heavily used. All have a few things in common, having the Path of Command, which gives re-roll 1s to hit to
