I think the fact that you use your chisels every day is a large factor in keeping them rust free, specifically the oils from your skin. But, respectfully, for those of us who don’t use our tools every day 🙂 using them once then putting them away for a week or 2 pretty much guarantees rust. That’s a question even a master woodworker would have trouble answering. You really just need to ask yourself if you want something weightier and more durable or something lighter and more nimble.The head of each of the chisel handles features a full butt to hit it with the mallet effortlessly. As with all specialist woodworking tools, the wood chisel has a variety of brands each with its own range of features to compare. There are so many brands and features that you may even begin to feel overwhelmed when you’re looking to find who makes the best wood chisels. Being chisels savvy will certainly make purchasing a chisel much easier. For those who may have already done some research on brand names, you may recognize the names of Narex, Stanley, Robert Larson, and Lie-Nielsen. Examples of cuts made with a chisel tool would include cutting mortises, cutting dovetails, and carving out just about any recess that you could ever want. The smaller blades of the chisels allow finer levels of detailing and accuracy that larger tools may struggle with.

For a weekend woodworker like me, this is a significant upgrade and I’m sure I will enjoy using them for a very long time. The 4-piece set will be enough for most people, and I would have got that instead of not for my specific need of a 1/8 chisel. Like I said, the ergonomic style handles are comfortable to grip. However, this might or might not be the case for you as it depends on your hand size. I consider my hand size as the standard or average size anyway.
