About this deal

Just sit on a side of the map, put slaves at the front, do not move your army at the beginning, just let the canons and catapults destroy the defending tower. Afterwards, let your siege units destroy units on the wall, and magic will destroy everything that coulde try to contest it. Finally you will be able to overflow the walls and route the enemy units remaining on it, before taking out the cavalry or monsters waiting behind it. Chain Warp Lightning – CV7, each enemy unit within 13” takes one mortal wound. Your Engineer’s warscroll spell is better than this. That said, they’re one of the most enjoyable armies to play, thanks to their unique chance-based rules, and their huge armies that simply intimidate the opposition. Each Skaven Great Clan gets special rules of their own, even in mixed legions, but the following applies across the board to all of them.

Never underestimate or forget to use some of your opponent's cities to extend your underground empire; the under cities can end up providing most of your food and money income. Moreover, it can help you during battle and let you have bonuses within your opponent's territory. The Skaven are vile, malevolent ratmen that swarm beneath the surface of the world. Hidden in their sprawling underground lairs, they gnaw at the roots of civilization, plotting and scheming for the day they will burst from their dark tunnels and drown the world above in a tide of mangy fur, rusty blades and plague-ridden filth. They desire world domination with every fibre of their twisted beings - from their quivering whiskers to the tips of their segmented tails.

Artefacts of Power

To his dismay, Thanquol has found that he’s not the only survivor from the World-That-Was. His arch nemesis, Gotrek Gurnisson, has also survived, and is set to foil Thanquol’s plans all over again as part of their never-ending vendetta.

Loyalty: Lords have different loyalty levels, which can cause them to take their army and rebel against you. Skaven were already referenced in the first game nonetheless, in random events. In one quest battle for Grimgor Ironhide, he mentioned about "Ratmen" in his speech. OK, they do essentially no meaningful damage and are a single wound sat behind a 5+ save so die in droves, and will then self-destruct with their bravery 4 but the latter is something the army does have ways of working around. Otherwise, 100 points for 20 bodies with those little extra rules is a brilliant deal. Whilst the Skaven book does have lots of exciting ways of filling battleline, do not forget about the humble Clanrat.

Command Traits

If you’re sniffing out a new Warhammer Age of Sigmar army, then the Skaven might be the perfect fit for you. Read on, and you’ll learn all about their ratty history, who the Skaven are, and how they play in the current edition of the game. Alternatively, if you’re already creeped out, try our overall guide to Age of Sigmar armies instead. Scoring – Unless you specifically build for it, Skaven can struggle into the tighter scoring of Gallet. The castle builds often start off slow and score later in the game. Food is a unique resource for the Skaven in campaign that they must manage, alongside money. Food is consumed by each army and settlement and produced each turn faction-wide. Low levels cause major problems, while high levels provide significant bonuses. Food can be spent on increasing the limit for the Menace Below, or it can be spent to Colonize new settlements at a higher level than usual. Minor and major settlements can be colonized up to maximum, if food allows. You get to set up three Gnawholes. Gnawholes are pretty big and have pretty tight deployment restrictions: more than 3” from objectives and terrain features, more than 18” from another Gnawhole and wholly within 8” of a board edge (given the size of Gnawholes, this basically means touching a board edge).
