About this deal

On 2 March Hansard records the reply of the home secretary to a request for an inquiry into George Riley's case. This cookie is set by Addthis.com. This was not a first conviction. It was a dastardly crime. What else could Mr Butler do?" We are working closely with the police investigation team, but all our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this tragic time."

Residents will see an increased police presence in the area for the coming days as officers carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to anyone who may be concerned. You had to have seen the blood stains on the wall in the bedroom, virtually a silhouette of a figure, a human figure.Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Bellamy said: “Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Aurman at this difficult time. The assaults happened late yesterday afternoon in Pride Hill. Members of the public were also threatened by the man who carried out the assaults. No arrests have been made yet in relation to the incident yesterday, police have said. Ligus also admitted having committed a fifth murder in which he drowned a man in the River Severn but police had “insufficient grounds” to press charges. The court heard that he was a drug addict in the early 1990s and carried out burglaries across the county to fund his heroin and cocaine habit. Following a stroke in 2003 his health rapidly deteriorated and he was unable to give evidence or even plead in the recent trial. Ligus was jailed for life in 1996 for the murder of Robert Young, 75, during a burglary at Mr Young's home in Shrewsbury two years previously.

The former painter and decorator is already serving a life sentence for murdering pensioner Robert Young also in 1994. On Monday afternoon, Mr Singh's DPD van could be seen from behind the cordon set up by West Mercia Police following the incident and by Tuesday morning there was a forensic tent, a police van and a police car at the scene. Liberal Democrat councillor for Quarry and Coton Hill Nat Green said he hoped the "deeply upsetting" event was an "isolated" incident" and that "nothing like this ever happens again". Residents will see an increase police presence in the area for the coming days as officers carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to anyone who may be concerned.

We understand this incident may be concerning for the local community and I would like to offer my reassurance we will carry out a full and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances. Four people are in custody as our investigation continues. Police are being very tight-lipped with us, so something major has happened. It's awful that something this tragic can happen on our wonderful little estate. I have lived here 26 years and nothing like this has ever happened before. It's just indicative of the world we're living in at the moment." Another woman added: "The first police were here around 1pm and two ambulance and the air ambulance were here. We were prevented from getting into our own homes while police investigated, so the local pub put everyone up. West Mercia Police have been brilliant though. Forensic officers were here until 11pm last night. I just know a young man has been killed while going out to work to earn a living and that's just terrible."

Jurors at Birmingham Crown Court were asked to rule on whether or not Ligus was responsible for the killings following a trial of facts, after he was declared unfit to plead following a stroke in 2006. No one who did the battering could have escaped without a bloodstain on their clothing and the only bloodstain they found on George's possessions was on his shaving towel where he'd cut himself." Four men aged 24, 22, 26 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. I am satisfied that there has been no miscarriage of justice and that there is no ground for an inquiry." We understand this incident may be concerning for the local community and I would like to offer my reassurance we will carry out a full and thorough investigation to establish the circumstances.

Two men aged 22 and 26, and two aged 24, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody, West Mercia Police said. Investigators found no sign of “forcible entry” but the first officers at the scene suspected foul play because of the injuries to Mr Coles and signs of disruption.
