About this deal

However, for larger and heavier clothes, you have to wash one item at a time. Is The Scrubba Wash Bag Worth It? While we’ve thoroughly enjoyed putting this thing to the test, we have found that the Scrubba Wash Bag will leave your clothes very wet after washing—hopefully their next product will be a portable clothes dryer (if only). It’s only the same as handwashing would, but it’s still a pain, and we’d highly recommend pressing your clothes inside a towel before hanging them up.

As long as you don’t use water over the recommended temperature ( 50 degrees) and avoid using sharp objects (all the obvious stuff considering it is a material dry bag) the Scrubba wash bag should last many years. There is a guarantee with the bag which applies against defects in the material. Scrubba Wash Bag Review - Conclusion If this sounds like a mechanism that will come in handy on your next excursion, be sure to get one up before you head out the door! We’ve found these materials give the Scrubba Wash Bag a crinkly and plastic-like feel, but it’s clear that Scrubba has thought long and hard about everything going on here, and it all comes together really well. Usage & Benefits Rolled Up & Compressed Scrubba Wash Bag The Scrubba is a sealable, waterproof bag with an opening at one end where you put a small amount of clothing, warm water and detergent. You then roll it up, push out the air, and push down on the bag to rub the clothes against an internal washboard. The washboard is made of a stronger plastic that has small blunt spikes to create friction and loosen dirt.Push down onto the clothes putting pressure onto the washboard through the clothes. You will soon start to see the water changing colour through the see through panel and it really doesn’t take long to get your clothes washed. Step 5 - Empty the dirty water out You start by filling the bag with soap, clothes, and water. Then, you roll it up, clip it, and deflate it. At this point, it is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT that you close the air vent after deflating. (Can you tell that we speak from experience here? You really don’t want to forget this step.) From there, you can scrub, rinse, and then hang your clothes up to dry. So, when the folks at Scrubba , a portable wash system, reached out to us for a review, I was curious to try it. However this costs more money, and if you’re staying in a fancy place, they might try to charge you per item (which is damn ridiculous, but we’ll save that debate for another day). Yes, the Scrubba wash bag is definitely worth it. It could be a bit pricey but for its performance, it is hard to find a good alternative to it.

A Scrubba weights about 5.0 oz and my 13L dry bag weights ~3.3 oz. The Scrubba is slightly larger as well.

The Scrubba claims to be a portable washing bag, but how well does it work?

Warm water will work best, but be mindful not to use water that’s too hot. A good rule of thumb is if it’s too hot for your hands, it’s too hot for the Scrubba. If you’re out in the wilderness—or you’re staying at a dodgy hostel—and don’t have access to warm water, cold will work too, just give it an extra minute of scrubbing.

I got the small Scrubba because I lifted the large version in a local hiking shop and felt like I would rather do a tiny load of laundry every day or two and save the weight. If I were staying in one place, the larger one would make sense, but since I’m changing locations every two or three days, I’d prefer less weight than more. I’m a seriously minimal traveller who cuts soap down to size for travel and this size fits my needs.Don’t forget to turn the Scrubba inside out and allow it to dry as well. How much can you wash in the Scrubba? Add liquid clothes washing soap. Solid clothes washing powder takes longer to dissolve, so we don’t recommend it unless you don’t have liquid soap around. Of course, when we’re traveling, we rarely carry clothes washing liquid, so in a pinch we’ve used shampoo or dish washing soap to clean our clothes. Both work well, but liquid washing soap works best. But as you can guess, it is up to you whether you are going to use liquid detergent or powdered detergent. Besides, it is not hard on your hands or arms to use. You will be able to wash clothes more comfortably using this wash bag compared to hand washing.

Better yet, it can wash twice as effectively as compared to hand washing. What Cleaning Liquid Do You Use In A Scrubba? The amount of water necessary depends on how many clothes you have inside. Thankfully, there’s a useful guide on the front of the wash bag that can be used in conjunction with the see-through panel—Scrubba really has thought of everything. This doesn’t sound like anything too difficult, and it’s not. But the truth is hand washing your clothes is time consuming, and often doesn’t let you get your gear perfectly clean (especially if you’re trying to do this after you’ve been on a multi-day hike. How much water? There is a guide on the front of the wash bag that has a see through panel which can be used to gauge the amount of water to put in - clever eh!What type of detergent? It’s best to use actual laundry detergent to get the best wash however you can use standard shampoo and soap if you are travelling light. We have found both liquid and powder washing detergent to do the best job and makes it easier to get the water soapy (and always use eco friendly detergent). The only downside for us when you compare using the Scrubba to a washing machine is it leaves your clothes a little more wet. However, when you consider the price difference and also the fact you can buy a Scrubba wash and dry kit which makes drying even easier it’s a small downside really. This might not be a huge issue, but whenever you don’t have access to liquid detergents it would be a challenge to use it.
