About this deal

Cognac – considered by many to be the champagne of the brandy world. There are many styles, but all Cognac must be made from a specific selection of grapes, double-distilled in copper stills and aged for at least two years in French Limousin oak. It has an aroma of dark chocolate, port wine cask, exotic spices, and figs, while a sip will reveal notes of white and red grapes, dried apricot, nutmeg, cinnamon, honey, and caramel. It’s certainly a complex brandy, and one that will leave you wanting more than just one taste. It’s a popular choice for brandy lovers, with a warming finish and smoky wood quality running throughout. Any fruit that ferments can be distilled and turned into a brandy but the most common and most favored choice is grape. Grande Champagne: A French district, otherwise known as a cru, known for its Cognac. The Grande Champagne region is regarded as the best and most respected region, followed by the Petite Champagne. Vintage: A term used for a bottle of brandy (or, commonly, Armagnac) for when a particular year’s harvest is all that’s gone into the bottle. These bottles are very expensive due to their rarity and age. Methodology: How we select, test, and rank the best brandy and Cognac on the market

Rémy Martin defines excellence in a bottle and combines everything a good brandy should have. This XO is a Fine Champagne, produced by blending up to 400 different eaux de vie. It’s a thoroughly good quality bottle, combining 85 percent of the product sourced from the Grande Champagne region with the remaining 15 percent taken from the Petite Champagne region. Armagnac: A grape brandy, made in France’s Armagnac region, with a similar flavor profile to Cognac but often with more spiced and bold notes. It also uses three additional grape varieties: Folle Blanche, Colombard, and Baco Blanc. It boasts a deep flavor of oak, violet, and strawberry, with aromas of apricot, brown sugar, and cacao nibs. Courvoisier XO Cognac is a true example of brandy at its best; combining its rich character with a full-bodied finish and a sharp taste. It’s a popular bottle among brandy lovers and is known for being a staple of the industry. If you’re new to the world of brandy, the broad variety of options available on the market might be overwhelming at first. It will require patience and trial to explore the different brands.Read more about the supermarket Cognac that’s got everyone talking, and let us know if you’ve managed to try Chevalier VS Cognac. 4. Waitrose VSOP Cognac Upmarket UK supermarket chain, Waitrose, is well known for partnering with wine and spirit makers to bring quality products to their shelves under their own brand name. Like many of their competitors, they’ve hidden the Cognac house who produced the eau-de-vie, saying that they’ve been sourced from the “Charente’s leading grower’s cooperative”. The much-loved and award winning VSOP from UK supermarket chain, Waitrose It seems there’s nothing the dominant supermarket and grocery chains consider off limits when it comes to drawing a profit. Even Cognac isn’t immune to conglomerate domination, with global giants the world over collaborating to bring their own brands to the party. But the big question is… Are they any good, and which is the best supermarket Cognac? Many grocery stores and supermarkets now feature own-brand liquor and beers We remain in the UK for this one, with supermarket giant Tesco’s VS offering. It’s another that’s won its fair share of awards, but we have to say that the presentation really does leave something to be desired: the word “boring” doesn’t go anywhere near enough describing this truly dull bottle (sorry, Tesco). The rather dull presentation of the Tesco VS, in our humble opinion… Rémy Martin is known for being one of the biggest cognac producers in the world. Its expertise can also be recognized as it’s part of the Comité Colbert, an association of luxury businesses that promote French know-how worldwide.

A brandy can also be designated as an Hors d’Age, which translates from French as “beyond age” and covers the spirits that have been aged for at least six years and often for decades, or “vintage” which covers those produced from the very best years. A vintage brandy is the best of the best and should only be sipped neat. As long as you keep the bottle tightly sealed and away from direct sunlight or heat, it should last indefinitely. It doesn’t improve with age once in the bottle, but nor should it go off if stored correctly.Rodell Napoleon is marked as a VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) but as its namesake suggests, the brandy is Napoleon grade, meaning the youngest contribution of the final product is aged somewhere in between the VSOP and XO minimum maturation requirements of four to six years. 3. How much is a bottle of Napoleon brandy? VS: Very Special: the second youngest brandy and the term covers brandy that’s been aged for a minimum of three years. Brandewijn: The original name for brandy – a Dutch word that is derived from gebrande wijn, which literally means “burned wine”. However, the Cognac has certainly impressed industry judges in various competitions, with a handful of silver awards to its name. Sorry for those of you outside of the UK, it appears that at present this is the only country where it’s offered for sale. If you’d rather enjoy a simpler creation, brandy goes particularly well with a range of different fruit juices. Lemon is the top choice, offering a blend of tart notes to combine with the spirit’s sweetness. Orange, cranberry, and lime juice are also excellent choices. For more traditional mixers, a brandy and coke is a popular request, while mixing brandy with lemonade releases more citrus notes. What are the top five best brandy brands?

Brandy de Jerez – Comes from Spain and is distilled once in copper stills, then aged in oak barrels. This must be produced in the Jerez area of Andalusia, within the so-called “Sherry Triangle”, and comes in three categories. Solera is the youngest and fruitiest, with a minimum average age of one year; Solera Reserva has a minimum average age of three years, and the Solera Gran Reserva is the oldest with a minimum average age of 10 years. Any advice on serving and storing brandy?Grappa – a distinctively Italian take on brandy It’s a strong, pungent drink made by distilling grape skins and seeds, as opposed to a sweeter grape brandy, which includes the grape juice. The supermarket chain also has an XO version, although this is sold in a 50cl bottle, rather than one of full size.
