About this deal

The figures show how positive the effects of this process can be: If such products are filled with biogas instead of fossil fuels, their CO2 emissions can decrease dramatically. While we traditionally have sourced our gas from South Korea, we have moved the production for SIP Power Gas to Greece to be closer to our main customer base. From there, the gas is now being transported to Northern Germany and then to Sweden – a significant shortening of the delivery routes. The reason that production was not moved directly to Northern Europe is that there is currently no infrastructure in Sweden or Germany to fill biogas into camping gas containers in these countries.

Until then, we ensure that for every sold SIP Power Gas canister, the same amount of biogas is being produced and put into the market. To assess and evaluate environmental impacts connected to SIP Power Gas, we conducted a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) screening with aid from an independent third party. When developing a product with as little environmental impact as possible, all the steps in the supply chain need to be under evaluation. This means that every link in the process has been reviewed in detail to examine the environmental impact of each step. The ultimate goal is to deliver the strongest product possible, from a sustainability perspective. Our goal is to deliver the strongest product possible, from a sustainability perspective. When we move production of SIP Power Gas closer to our largest markets, we decrease the distance the fuel is transported. This results in a significate reduction of the canisters' climate impact than regular Primus Power Gas. For most of our stoves you will use gas as fuel. Our containers hold a mixture of propane, butane and isobutane. The mixture between the different gases depends on whether it is Power Gas, Winter Gas or Summer Gas. In terms of performance, SIP Power Gas is a propane/butane mix. This differs slightly to standard red Power Gas, which is a propane/isobutane mix. There’s not much difference between the two, as isobutane has an identical molecular structure to butane. However, it is slightly more efficient when used as a cooking fuel in lower temperatures, so gas canisters containing isobutane rather than butane are generally considered to offer slightly superior performance in colder weather. However, most campers won’t notice a significant difference, and the environmental benefits of SIP Power Gas over other gas canisters on the market means this is a small but worthwhile sacrifice. VerdictSome common types of camping stove fuels include propane, butane, isobutane and white gas. Yet, it is not only the products and their raw materials themselves that leave a strong ecological footprint but also their supply chains. Camping stove fuel can be produced in various locations worldwide, depending on the fuel type. Through the principle of mass balance, every molecule of SIP Power Gas ensures the same amount of biogas made from food waste is produced.”

All our factories sign up to our Code of Conduct. Find out where we make our product by visiting our Factories of Alpkit factory zone. We have joined the Science Based Targets Initiative which sets independent targets for us to achieve to do our bit to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Our targets are to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 based on 2018 base year and reduce our total carbon intesnity by 15% every year to achieve genuine net zero by 2050.Our products are made in the best factories in the world. We know the factories personally and they have all signed up to our Code of Ethics in our supply chain. This includes the Ethical Trading Initiative base code, fair pay, safe working environments, no child labour, no modern slavery, no bribery or corruption, no materials from conflict zones and humane farming methods. Primus have stated that their ultimate goal is to phase out fossil fuels altogether in the world of outdoor cooking. As such, SIP Power Gas is a major step forward, and will be a cornerstone product in the future Primus product range. After all, it’s the only consumable product they make, but also a core product, since it powers many of their camping stoves and lanterns. Different gases have different boiling points. The lower the boiling point, the higher the pressure in the container at a certain temperature, which leads to higher output on the stove. Propane has the lowest boiling point, followed by isobutane and then butane. At low temperatures, you want a mixture of gases that have a low boiling point as this results in better output on the stove. This is the reason behind the mixture of propane and isobutane in our Power Gas and Winter Gas. At higher outdoor temperatures, you want a mixture of gases with a higher boiling point instead, which is why we have butane instead of isobutane in our Summer Gas.

The brand has said that other steps on their sustainability journey will be to produce the most fuel-efficient stoves on the market, to carefully consider the choice of materials they use in future and aim to build stoves to be life-long companions (or in other words, achieve sustainability through longevity). In conjunction with offsetting the carbon emissions for all Primus fuel, it’s an ambitious and important programme that looks to a greener future. As I tend to go out alone, usually for just one or two nights, I'll typically default to the smallest and lightest canister-top stove. In comparison to these the Gravity is a bit of a beast, weighing a hefty 260g and taking up a lot more room in the bag. That said, its folding legs make it a smaller load than it could be, and it is certainly less onerous to carry than a typical multi-fuel stove. The Gravity is a lot of stove for a soloist, but it would make sense for a party of two, three or even four people. To compensate for its weight the unit is well made and durable, and although this is a short term test it looks like it'll offer years of service. Accessories: Complete your outdoor kit with our range of accessories, including fuel bottles, windshields, repair kits, and spare parts.Cookware: From lightweight titanium pots to versatile frying pans, our cookware is designed to withstand the rigors of outdoor cooking and make meal prep easy and efficient. This will surely happen. However, to invest in a production line, the demand for biogas in camping gas canisters has to increase first. This is the first step in our journey of providing a more sustainable stove fuel. Although this model does not include filling our SIP Power Gas canisters with “green molecules,” we have taken one major step – we have secured and supported production of biogas. We are carbon neutral under PAS2060 and offset our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 operations and transport emissions. We recognise that offsetting is not part of the solution but a point to pass through on a journey to Net Zero. Carbon Neutral is just a step in that journey. In general, the production and distribution of camping stove fuel involve complex supply chains that can span multiple countries and companies. What is Primus SIP Power Gas? And how does it work?
