Williams, J. H. C. (1999), "Septimius Severus and Sol, Carausius and Oceanus: two new Roman acquisitions at the British Museum", The Numismatic Chronicle, 159: 310–311 JSTOR 42668508

Poseidon’s trident was a tool that would have been familiar to many mortal men of the ancient world in its form. The god of the sea, fittingly, used a fishing spear. In another myth, Poseidon creates a spring or springs with the strike of his trident to reward Amymone for her encounter with him. [9] In a version of another myth Poseidon wields his trident to scare off a satyr who tries to rape Amymone after she mistakenly hits him with a hunting spear. [9] In Ancient Rome tridents ( Latin: tridens or fuscina) were used by a type of gladiator called a retiarius or "net fighter". The retiarius was traditionally pitted against a secutor, and cast a net to wrap his adversary and then used the trident to fight him. [29] [30]In Greek mythology, when the Titans were defeated by the Olympian gods in the Titanomachy, the world was divided among the victorious Olympians, with Poseidon receiving dominion over the seas. The trident became his primary symbol and tool, granting him control over the waters and the ability to create storms, cause earthquakes, and manipulate the oceans as he pleased. Who Was Poseidon in Greek Mythology? The brother did as Gaia had requested and released the Cyclopes and Hecatonchieres. The six giant children of Gaia proved to be valuable allies. Starting with Tyrant, C. Cameron has become the preeminent writer of our time for historical fiction set in Classical Greece and he has been getting only better in both style and structure - the research was always there as was the atmosphere and the larger than life characters but the first books had the occasional narrative wall and structural problems like the prophecy that essentially forced Tyrant 2 into a bit narrower narrative space than it should have been.A full rv on FBC in a week, but a top 25 novel of the year, a great ending to boot and the next installment of this cannot come soon enough! Poseidon's Spear is one mans personal journey through a very dark period in his life. His battle against odds that would kill many a person, a journey through the bowels of the ancient world. A view of the depravity that men could inflict on other men in the ancient world (and lets face it still do).
