Persie Gin is a renowned spirit crafted in the Scottish Highlands, notable for its distinctive aroma-forward character and a focus on achieving well-rounded, accessible flavours. Founded by Simon Fairclough, known as the ‘Gin Man of Scotland’, this distillery emanates a philosophy that nose, as well as taste, should drive the gin-drinking experience. Like the breed, this is spicy and lively on the palate with a gentle coating (made with mace, cinnamon and bay leaves). After tasting some of Tennent's products, including exclusive brews, visitors will take a short trip to the distillery where a tour and guided tasting of Makar Gin and single malt awaits. One of my go-to gins is Shortcross Gin from Northern Ireland’s Rademon Estate Distillery, a classic London Dry gin with lovely buttery and floral notes. The results are highly regarded as they are independently audited by a panel of experts and judged live in a rigorously assessed blind tasting event.

Several varieties of the boozy tipple are available, including a series of dog-themed gins – Labrador, Spaniel and Dachshund, plus a cross-breed gin called Dog Days.Visitors are invited to an interactive tour and tasting at The Glasgow Distillery Company, where you can see first hand the craftsmanship and care that goes into each bottle. The bottle was designed by the team at Stranger & Stranger, and reflects the rolling waves of the Harris coast. If you like what you see and try, you can join the Old Curiosity Gin Club, where you can sample a brand new and exclusive gin flavour every month. Plus their Christmas gin baubles sparked a national craze when they sold out in record time when they launched in 2017.

If you’re a fan of yuzu like me then you’ll enjoy this citrus-forward bottling from Japanese producer Kyoya Shuzo, known for its shōchūs. The expression uses a base of sweet potato shōchū and a selection of botanicals such as yuzu and hyuganatsu citrus fruits, juniper, and sansho pepper.
