About this deal

Time for the nitty-gritty; Measurements. Entry level kits can often display up to two or even three mm discrepancies when cross measuring the diameter of the shells, and similarly up to two mm from “level” to high and low spots of the bearing edge. The Midtowns however boast tolerances more in line with intermediate drums. None of the shells are more than 1 mm “Out-of-Round” and the bearing edge “trueness” remains within 1 mm throughout the kit. These are very impressive results in this price range. The bearing edges themselves are smooth, consistent and without flaws. The configuration, sound quality, and overall cost-effectiveness just makes it such a good kit option for jazz drummers. Most beginner drum sets are of poor quality and fall apart within months. But not the Pearl Roadshow Drum Set . You can expect Pearl’s renowned quality that has given the company such a strong, long-standing reputation. The DW Design Series Mini-Pro drum set is a professional standard mini drum set that delivers incredible tones and serious playability.

Cymbals are the main timekeepers in jazz, whereas the drums are there to fill in flavorful patterns and build intensity where needed. Consider your budget: DW’s sister brand is now 23 years old, and one of the stand-out kits we’ve seen from Pacific Drums & Percussion in recent times is the New Yorker. It’s so good, in fact, that it stands up well against a similar (but more expensive) configuration from Dee-Dubs itself! The Roadshow Series is always going to be a top recommendation for first-time drummers, and I was just as impressed with this jazz version of the kit as I was when trying the main version.

Oh no! Why did I get blocked?

Pearl had an incredibly good run with their Export kits. They became the most popular drum set in the world at one point. You can still easily find Export kits being used all over, and the hardware pieces from those kits are still standing strong. That’s one good example of how great Pearl’s hardware is. Prices This is one of the best sounding and most affordable compact kits I’ve tried. The mahogany shells are superb, so I found this kit offers plenty of value. The Pearl Midtown Series drum set delivers premium quality at a really great price. This is certainly one of the best compact drum kits available, and these drums are incredibly enjoyable to play. Drumhead choice is incredibly important when it comes to jazz drum sets. To get the most resonance and musicality possible, a jazz kit should have single-ply drumheads. Next is the wrap finish. The seams are all uniform and well bonded. Even with a bit of prodding and prying along the seams, there does not seem to be any loose spots that could eventually cause lifting. The wrap itself is of higher quality than most anything in the segment, with perfectly gleaming surfaces throughout and a uniform appearance. Also we were not able to find any scuffs or scratches.

The New Yorker (are you spotting a theme with the names here?) echoes some of the features of the Pearl Midtown: all-poplar shells and cut-out wooden bass drum hoops, while the riser mounts externally. The shells are all 6-ply of 7.5 mm poplar. They have a standard 45-degree inner, and a little smoothed over 45 degrees put outside bearing edges. This is a feature you can get from a more expensive product.
