About this deal

Percy Metcalfe, CVO, RDI, was an English artist sculptor and designer. He is recognised mostly for his coin designs and his contribution to the Ashtead Pottery Collection. Once a coin becomes heavily worn, the number of recognizable features standing out adds to value. Legends separated from the rim is a plus. A bold date is important. A technical grade of Good combined with pleasing eye appeal is strong for the grade. In this case, the mintage for the 1921 penny was around 129 million – 129,717,693 to be exact – which is an exceptionally large amount.
