About this deal

Sleeping in the OEX Phoxx was really good fun. This may be down to the fact that I didn't have to share the tent so there was oodles of room for a solo camper and I could spread all my gear out and still have room for the dogs. From a personal perspective, it would be a snug fit to share with another adult and have space for your gear. Plenty upright space in the OEX Phoxx 2 We inspect the interiors of the tents during and after testing to see how each fares against the elements. Some tents manage to stay firm, but others blow over and even have puddles in the sleeping compartments. We pitch every tent, taking into account how long it takes, how clear the instructions are, how much physical effort is required, and how convenient the process is. It's very common for manufacturers to be generous about the number of people they say can fit inside their tents. The number they give will be technically true, but it probably won't account for the space needed for campers' belongings, or the space people need for a comfortable night's sleep. The tent's design, while cosy, might feel a bit snug for taller campers or if you have a lot of gear. Nevertheless, for its price point, it offers solid performance. Design and Construction 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Not all tents have indoor communal spaces that can house all the campers if the weather turns, and even those that do aren't always large enough for everyone to be comfortable.

Th e Cloud Peak from Naturehike was a tent that I wanted to test for such a long time. It had a stronger design, having three poles which cross over each other to create a strong geodesic structure that can stand up against the winds. We put the Phoxx 2 through our rigorous testing criteria to evaluate it's overall performance and functionality, design and construction, our own user experience and value for money and overall, the Phoxx 2 excelled across the board given the rain and windy conditions we pitched in, giving them a 4 out of 5 fireside rating. The extremely low profile of the OEX Phoxx 1 enables you to pitch the tent in some fairly exposed areas. I’ve had it up in 40mph+ winds and driving rain and it never failed. One downsides we found with this tent is that it isn’t long enough for someone over 6′. Your toes will be pressed against the end of the tent. It says it is 220cm long inside, but when you factor in the steeply sloping end of the tent plus then you add your sleeping mat on top, there is a lot less than 220cm to play with. The Phoxx seems to have a bit more internal length and just about suffices for someone over 6′.

You can also get hold of the Lanshan 1 Pro, the slightly smaller one man version – although this will require seam sealing before you take it out. Tents with rigid poles made of stainless steel or aluminium are for building a rigid frame that will keep your tent sturdy in the wind. They can be heavier and more cumbersome to pitch, though.

A good rule of thumb is to go for a tent that's claimed to sleep one more person than you need. If you're a family of four, for example, we'd recommend going for a five-person tent.
