Acts of Faith work like CP, with their own little list of ploys that they can be spent on. You get three at the start of each turn, and can save them, but in a four turn game you get twelve points to spend. However there are ways to boost the number of faith points you have, through the Pronatus or the Glorious Martyrdom tactical ploy or some of the equipment choices. Beyond that, there are of course the rules for the teams, with the same depth as the ones we saw in Octarius, replete with Specialists, Tac Ops, Battle Honours and all the rest. This isn’t a get-you-by until a Codex can come along and replace the pamphlet, these are rules you’re expected to use for your team for the foreseeable; supplementing those are additional Killzone (terrain) rules and nine new Shadow Operations missions. If you’re interested in playing one of these teams, the book is essential; even if you’re not, there’s plenty here to get to grips with and integrate into your games or campaigns of Kill Team. 2. Of course, our brave Novitiates also have plenty of exclusive wargear they can collect on their travels. We’re particular fans of the Auto-chastiser, which lets you re-roll as many 1s as you like. Of course, if you roll more 1s, you take mortal wounds. Secure Vantage – A wildly swingy Tac Op as terrain placement can make it impossible. It is also worth noting that Novitiates don’t come with the ability to Fly or access any equipment such as Climbing Ropes that can make it easier for operatives to get on top of vantage points. If you have to use this Tac Op ensure you have your Pronatus on hand. D to C depending on vantage point presence Blessed Rejuvenation (2 Faith Points) – When an operative is activated they may regain d3 lost wounds. This is a great way to take an operative from wounded to injured, however its random nature risks it being wasted. At the end of the day it is better to spend faith points to guarantee you stop 5 damage from a plasmagun than trying to heal your way out of it later. Kasrkin – While their shooting is inherently stronger you’re looking at a similarly equipped team in terms of numbers and stat line with not nearly as many bonuses and special abilities. Keep an eye out for their above average number of weapon specialists, but otherwise this fight is strongly in your favor. A And then finally we have the LVO 2023 Championships, an 87-player, 7-round event that took place in Las Vegas on January 28th. In contrast to our last two events, this event featured only Open terrain, so players did not have to build for or worry about Gallowdark play: Icon of Faith (2 EP) –You can only have two of these, and can’t have them on the same operative. It let’s you do a free Act of Faith once per game for a princely 2EP. Depending on your other Faith point sources this ranges from useful to really useful.Reconsecrate Ground – A strong choice. Depending on the layout this allows you to choose an objective marker that is firmly within your territory, and all you need to do is then hold it during two different Turning Points as long as one of them is the last Turning Point. Additionally, you can combine it with Tac Ops such as Recover Item or Seize Ground to create a particularly valuable area of the board that your opponent can’t afford to ignore. This last part can make this a risky choice simply because if you are losing the battle you might find yourself pushed out of the points game entirely. Chaplet Ecclesiaticus (2 EP)–Each time the model is activated, roll a dice. On a 6 you get an additional +1 to your APL. This is 2EP, note that Bosspole for the Kommandos, which just gives you an extra APL on your Nob, is 3EP. I don’t think this is worth it. Glorious Hymnal costs an AP, but gives a six inch bubble around the Preceptor where Novitiates can reroll 1s and 2s when they fight. This makes hitting with weapons like eviscerators much more likely, and means Militants with Novitiate Blades can reroll all their misses unless they’re injured and miss on 3s, in which case they still have Balance and can reroll a single dice. Novitiate Dialogus The Novitiates are Battle Sisters-in-training, full of youthful zeal and a burning desire to prove themselves worthy of joining their power-armoured comrades. Their main sprue can be used to assemble a full team equipped with either autoguns or autopistols and razor-sharp swords, led by an experienced Sister Superior. Courier – Escort Operative but easier, no Turning Point restriction, and you don’t need to be as close to your opponent to score the second point. It still runs into the issue that once the courier is declared he runs the risk of being killed. CCAVE: Basically follow the same steps from the assembly of the other Novitiate Purgatus under 24*. (d)* above. Afterwards you’re done assembling the Team for now. Mission actions are specific to the mission you are playing, and will be detailed by that mission’s briefing. The designers behind Kill Team keep a close eye on how the special operatives of the 41st Millennium are getting on, ensuring that the game stays balanced and fun for all players. For example, if it performed it during its activation, it would not be able to perform the action again during that activation. Novitiates have some rather nice pieces of equipment, as well as the standard grenades. Most of it’s pretty expensive from an EP standpoint.
