About this deal

The lens unsurprisingly features only a plastic barrel and mount. To me, this is no issue at all. The plastic barrel is not the most vulnerable part, given the extending front element. I crashed my camera on a tripod with the 18-55mm VR II AF-S lens attached (previous generation lens, featuring almost identical design), and the lens got damaged by distorting the front element, not by breaking the barrel.

While there are countless of free information online, the best thing you can do is invest in paid courses to speed up your learning curve.I could go blind trying to see any real differences. Any apparent differences turn out to be variations in focus. The AF-S DX Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens features a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) that allows near-silent auto-focusing on all Nikon DSLR cameras. In use, we found the focusing to be pretty quiet and pleasingly fast - but not instantaneous - with the lens mounted to a Nikon D3300 body. The 18-55mm VR feels perfectly matched to the weightless D40, D40x, D60 or D80. It doesn't feel bad on my D3, either. It's light but solid. The zoom ring is damped perfectly. Most people who buy this will never get any benefit from VR, however if you're reading this review, you probably are the sort of person who learns his camera and will. Just like the miraculous 18-55mm AF-S II, this little plastic lens is a miracle. It's sharp, sharp, sharp.

Used on a DX camera it gives the same angle-of-view as a 28-85mm lens gives on a 35mm film or FX digital camera. Maximize the focal length of the 55mm while zooming into your object. Consequently, this reduces the maximum aperture to f/5.6. In this case, ensure you have enough natural light. In this review, I will focus on comparing the latest AF-P version with the older AF-S VR II version. Just for the sake of highlighting the progress of the last two generations, I also include the 2007 generation in the following comparison table: Feature Nikon's "P" series of NIKKOR lenses use a pulse motor (utilizing stepping motors) to focus smoother and quieter than previous drive systems. This quiet drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting video.

It has only the very slightest green-magenta fringing in the corners at the wide end on a D200 or other older camera. It will be invisible in normal use and is better than the 18-200mm VR.
