About this deal

It's a bit of both. Madri is brewed in the UK and available in the UK but was created in partnership with a Spanish brewery and is marketed as Spanish influenced.

Every year hundreds of fiestas, carnivals and parades take place in Spain. Often they celebrate religious holidays like Christmas and Easter. These colourful and lively events would not be complete without a vast spread of traditional Spanish tapas, jugs full of fruity sangria and ice cold beers. The branding and name are Iberian influenced.Traditionally alcoholic beverages like sangria and beer would be consumed at sporting events like bull fighting. However more recently Spain has clamped down on drinking alcohol in public and many regions in Spain have now banned bull fighting due to animal welfare controversy. Madri has been a huge commercial success since it launched. It also won a silver medal in the lager category at the World Beer Awards 2021. In 2004, the descendants of the Moritz family relaunched the brand with much success. [2] The beer is now produced under license in the brewery La Zaragozana, in Saragossa ( Aragon). The former factory building on the Ronda de Sant Antoni was renovated by Jean Nouvel, [8] and now houses the company's offices, a beer museum, a small showcase brewery, and a tasting bar. Production was collectivized during the Spanish Civil War. The factory returned to the family by 1939 after the victory of General Franco's troops. An increase in beer consumption in Spain in the early 50s made the company prosper. [7]

Madri's brewers say: "To build on this momentum, the brand will be launching a multimillion-pound marketing and advertising campaign later this year, including TV, video-on-demand, out-of-home and digital activity. It will also be partnering with a number of high-profile events and venues over the summer, including London’s iconic Vinegar Yard, where it hosted a number of events over the past couple of weeks." Madri is brewed to a 4.6% ABV. That's fairly standard for a draught lager in the UK. They are usually between 4 and 5%. Do supermarkets like Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, and Asda sell Madri? Moritz is a brand of Spanish beer, with its headquarters on the Ronda Sant Antoni in Barcelona, Catalonia. Unlike its crosstown rival Damm, Moritz markets itself as the only beer brand in the world whose labeling is entirely in the Catalan language. [1] The company was founded in 1856 by an Alsatian immigrant, Louis Moritz Trautmann. After ceasing production in 1978 due to the energy crises, the brand was relaunched in 2004 by Trautmann's descendants. [2] Products [ edit ]Louis Moritz died in 1920, [7] and the company was passed on to his heirs, who named the business “Fábrica de Cervezas Moritz, S.A.” Launched in the UK and Ireland market in October 2020, Madrí Excepcional is described as a "modern-European style lager". It was developed in collaboration with La Sagra, a brewery based an hour's drive from the centre of Madrid. Hence, "Madri".

A lot of world lagers are made in Yorkshire. Heineken has a base there, as do Coors and Samuel Smith's. So is Madri Spanish or English? One of the most popular beer festivals in Spain is the Barcelona Beer Festival. It is an annual meet up for all craft beer enthusiasts and has been known to attract over ten thousand visitors. There are over three hundred different beers to taste, including both local beers and beverages from other countries. It is thought that around fifty five of these beers actually come from the microbreweries based in Catalonia. As well as getting to sample some of Spain’s finest beers, visitors can also listen to lectures from local experts and learn more about Spain’s drinking culture. Since Molson Coors' launched the beer in collaboration with Spain's La Sagra brewery, Madrí Excepcional - shortened and Anglicised to Madri by drinkers - has been put behind more than 7,500 bars in the UK. Madri is the sixth best-selling world lager, in terms of value, in the country, says its brewer. Not bad for a drink you'd never heard of before the pandemic.
