About this deal

The following information is not to be regarded as officially sanctioned and/ or is not written from an in-universe point of view. A detailed explanation of the term "Trivia" as used in the Lexicanum can be found here. When I took on Custodes I was happy that the person who I painted them for wanted something other than the classic gold. As much as I love a really nice rich gold colour, I find it pretty overwhelming on the Custodes models. Instead, I went for a striking red-dominated scheme, with darker bronze metallics. Add a little Cadian Fleshtone to the The Fang and layer up, leaving the darker color in the recesses

Betrayer by Aaron Dembski-Bowden follows Angron, Kharn, and Lorgar during the war for the Ultramar System, their clashes with the Ultramarines, and Angron’s dark apotheosis. The book talks about the Butcher’s Nails and Angron’s feelings of betrayal by the Emperor and lays the groundwork for the Legion’s future. Also it’s just a great read. http://www.wargamesfoundry.com - also do a range of similar to Citadel paints, will update when can get chance. Do you like gold? The Adeptus Custodes are the Emperor’s personal bodyguard and his greatest warriors. Each Custodian is a demigod in golden armor, wielding the Imperium’s most finely-wrought weapons, surpassing even the Space Marines in martial prowess and tactical acumen. Simply put: These guys are the best, of the best (of the best). Don’t let Space Marine or Grey Knight players tell you different! http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?s=c770bc029dd218be5d17fff14fecefeb&showtopic=17678&st=0&p=266494&#entry266494 The Master of Mankind by Aaron Dembski-Bowden takes place during the Horus Heresy and gives you insight into the Emperor himself (and his finest creations).

Red

I wanted to do my Custodes in NMM (Non metallic metal) but also wanted something I could replicate across a whole army without losing the will to live. After many hours of watching people wet blend / glaze etc I came up with this. It’s not the most realistic gold but I think it looks good and most importantly doesn’t take too long. People have described it as “cell shaded” which I like. The process is the same for vehicles or infantry, I just use an airbrush on the vehicles (but exactly the same colours and steps). The steps are quite repetitive and it looks a mess almost right until the end so keep persevering with it Golds Remember that photo we took of the primed model? We’ll use that as a reference for placing our highlights: The color scheme denotes him as a Blood Angel, but his skin is pale and his hair is no longer blonde.

Originally known as Calistarius, he was a Blood Angel Librarian of some ability and exceptional strength of character. [5] I could then move on to the remainder of my airbrush work on his armor. I feel like Helbrecht doesn’t quite have the traditional gold that I’d paint my custodes, Sanguinius, or Sanguinary guard with, instead having more of a brass color. I used Scale 75 Victorian Brass as a fitting basecoat, and decided the paint has enough sheen and there are plenty of crevices for a wash to shade so I didn’t need an airbrushed highlight. The hexadecimal color code #9a1115 is a medium dark shade of pink-red. In the RGB color model #9a1115 is comprised of 60.39% red, 6.67% green and 8.24% blue. In the HSL color space #9a1115 has a hue of 358° (degrees), 80% saturation and 34% lightness. This color has an approximate wavelength of 612.53 nm. Wash the reds with Nuln Oil to darken the robes down more than an Agrax or Carroburg Crimson wash would do. We want some deep rich colors to set off the pale white.Mix in a little more Cadian Fleshtone and layer up again, concentrating on raised areas where light would hit The wings were further highlighted with Ulthuan Grey (leave some of the previous highlight showing at the base of each feather). Right Hand: Mephiston’s right hand (the one without the gun) may require some bending or manipulation during assembly to ensure it lines up closer to his mouth. Try playing with it before gluing in place permanently. Wash the model with a matte coat of Agrax Earthshade. I apply this liberally since I like my shadows deep and I can always clean up any overflow later with more Mephiston Red.

The sword was then glazed with a coat of Gryph-Hound Orange heavily-diluted with Contrast Medium (1:4). Mix in a little more Tallarn Sand and layer up again, concentrating on raised areas where light would hit Using pure white, edge highlight the blade, and the inner cleft of the blade, as well as the power nodes In the long, long ago when painting Custodes I used Citadel’s Retributor Armor. However, when using that paint for this Allarus Custodian I again had the same problems as I had previously. Retributor Armor doesn’t quite cover as well as it should, and it sort of tears as you apply it. Because of this, I switched over to Scale75’s Dwarven Gold. If you have access to this paint, it’s fantastic. It goes on smooth and coats like a dream. It’s good enough that you might even be able to skip the previous Charred Brown step. Experienced painters will be able to get around this without issue, but novice painters might be caught out. It’s worth being aware of, and definitely something to experiment with.Let me tell you, after reading Joey’s comprehensive method above I feel like I have a tough act to follow. If you’re not quite on his level and wanting a simpler Mephiston which is closer to the box art version, here’s mine, which involved a lot fewer layers and a lot more Contrast. Finally, fitting the Halloween theme, the skulls are Rakarth Flesh, then Ushabti Bone, washed Seraphim Sepia, and then layered Ushabti Bone once again. How to Paint the Blood Angels, with different approaches to painting the red-armoured marines from different artists. http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/media/e588d28183cec31ffd6dcee6d3718fc3.cms/equivalencias-rev05.pdf As far as the global hobby community is concerned, Duncan is a man with a nigh-untouchable legacy, whose efforts, whose creativity, and whose genius has inspired thousands. To say high standard are, therefore, expected would likely be an understatement. So, how do Duncan’s Two Thin Coats Paints (which were created in partnership with trans Atlantis Games and Duncan’s Painting Academy heavy Roger Yates) measure up?
