About this deal

Go with a knife that offers a slip-resistant or easy-to-hold handle. By applying minimum pressure, you can cut the rope to untangle knots. Storage: Reasons to Avoid: for other tools and cutting options you will need other blade options or knives, this is a single purpose item.

I love this knife. It given to me as a gift over 10 years ago and it’s still sharp and still a reliable tool that I keep by my chart table. It sliced through all our ropes and the webbing without any problem. With pliers, wire stripper, three screwdrivers, scissors and a bottler opener, this multi-tool would cater for a lot of jobs on board with aplomb. We’ve done what we can, so it’s up to you now. Hopefully, you are now well versed in the details of rigging knives, and maybe soon, you’ll be an expert rigger. Get what’s best for your needs individually; if you can go more expensive, that’s great. But even if you can’t spend a lot, it’s ok; there are great knives for cheap. After you’ve done the hard work of finding what’s best for you, all that’s left is to get out there and test it out. Carry It With You Anywhere - This boat knife kit comes with a bonded leather sheath to protect both the blade and spike. The leather knife pouch is designed with a belt loop for added convenience. The built in additional tools make this more than just a knife. So yes, it’s a bit heavier and fatter than a knife that s solely a knife.

A proper rigging knife will also have a "lanyard bail" (or a ring, or sometimes a drilled hole) for attaching a light line or pull loop. With a lanyard, the knife can be tied to its owner and is always ready for action without risk of getting dropped overboard. In our findings, this one stood out as one of the best sailing rigging knives we found. It is made from high-end materials as well as added protective finishes. The steel is stainless with an HRC hardness rating of 58, which gives this knife an incredible sharpness retention factor. However, it sacrifices slightly on durability. Unfortunately, the boating knife market is a very small niche inside of the very large knife community. It is especially rare to find knife manufacturers making blades with a folding marlin spike tool attached. While it may be a great nautical knife, definitely don’t use it as a throwing knife because it won’t work very well. It has a clear and defined purpose and it is only good for that purpose, nothing else. The Neko features a friction release sheath which is designed for single hand release – simply grip the handle, pull, and off it comes.

Blade Edge: As aforementioned serrated blades are the most practical ones for your sailing needs. But, there’s also the straight edge or the combination of a serrated and straight edge. A straight edge offers clean cuts and provides even pressure but serrated edges are sharper and can be used for all kinds of cuts. Although the Leatherman Wave has become popular with sailors for its wide and well-judged array of tools, for price reasons we chose a relatively conservative multi-tool, the Leatherman Fuse, with only 12 features additional to the knife. When looking for a sailing knife there are some important features that need to be clarified beforehand. Firstly, do you want a fixed or folding blade? Fixed blades are particularly strong, solid, and are able to perform more heavy-duty tasks. Soldiers and outdoorsmen choose fixed blades as they’re more practical and can even be used as weapons. Also, fixed blades are generally easier to clean. However, as fixed blades are bulkier, they require a sheath for safe storage and carrying. Centuries later, the "Sheepsfoot Blade" is probably still one of the best for cutting rope & lines. Camillus didn’t even have to come up with a good name for this knife so long as it was a little shorter than a comprehensive description of what it is. They could have called it the “Boating Knife” for all I care.A sailing knife is an essential tool for sailors as you can use it for most jobs on your boat. For example, handling ropes, rigging, untying knots, cutting, opening bottles, and of course, for emergency situations. So, what kind of features a sailing knife should have? Specifications: length ‎25.4 x 7.37 x 2.03 cm; weight 117.93 Grams, features a bottle opener, stainless steel blade, rubber sheath Camillus does make a similar knife that’s 7.5 inches, but the blade is thinner and has wood handles. I just don’t like the look as much overall. I got this knife because it’s wide and compact, and I like things with G10 scales and VG-10 steel. So I’ll just have to put up with this thing as it is. Ergonomics: Surprisingly Comfortable A knife that can saw through a polypropylene fishing line wrapped around your prop may fare less well faced with a Dyneema halyard jammed in a riding turn.
