About this deal

All in all, I find that the Jojoba oil to be ideal due to its high reputation of being less smelly and not having a too darkened effect on the leather compared to other types of oils.

Wait 30 minutes for the colourant to thoroughly dry and then proceed to spray the leather. Set up your spray gun or airbrush and then spray the leather at a comfortable distance, not to over apply the colour. It is best to practice a bit on a piece of paper to get the hang of spraying first. Spray the colourant on in thin layers. This avoids runs and so makes for a nicer finish. The natural surface of split grain leather is not as dense, tight, and useful as full grain and top grain. Thus, it is often used in finishes of leathers that are colored, embossed, and the surface altered in some significant way. This allows it to offer some of the helpful qualities of a leather material, while having a visually pleasing and often-functional surface beneficial for leather products. Bonded Leather (Reconstituted Leather)There are many different kinds of leather wax you can get to finish your leather items but I find the adam wax to be one of the best because it’s the pure wax base which is in the recipe for a lot of tanned. It will give you work a nice polish, soften, enrich the dye color and give it a beautiful gloss. Tips on Applying W ax F inish es

It is recommended to let the dye dry after each application, before applying the next layer. Application Techniques Faux leather is a type of synthetic leather made generally of polyurethane or vinyl. Faux leather is intended to look like real leather yet cost significantly less. It is used often in the furniture industry and has the benefits of being inexpensive (compared to real leather), durable, and easy to clean. Note that it is important that excess binder that may build up around areas of stitching should be wiped away before it dries.

The double shoulder cut of a leather hide comes from the shoulder area of the animals. It is essentially the entire shoulder area from the hide. This area generally has a firm, yet malleable and flexible feel to it. Shoulder cuts work well for tooling. Bend Leather Cut The leather treatment will brighten or darken the leather's original color. If the leather is dyed, it will also affect the richness of the pigments employed. It will ultimately be up to personal preference, and a little testing, as to what the proper amount of dye:thinner is. A common ratio to start with is 50:50 (1/2 amount of dye to 1/2 amount of thinner). The grain is the outermost surface of the leather hide. It is comprised of tight, dense fibers. The grain is the layer that was exposed to the elements (air, rain, sun, etc.), and is usually very strong and smooth once the hair is removed. Leather Hide – The Grain and Corium Junction Corrected Grain - This is a leather that has artificial grain applied to its surface and this leather does not meet the standards that is required for creating vegetable-tanned or aniline leather. The imperfections are corrected or sanded off and an artificial grain is embossed into the surface with dyes.

Currently around 90% leather available in the market is chrome tanned leather that is tanned using chromium salts and tanning liquors, however it must be closely monitored to reduce environmental impact. It is a relatively new approach that was introduced to expedite the tanning process. Tanning can be processed in as little as two weeks time and cost considerably less compared to vegetable tanning. Leather finishing in a much simpler way can be explained as the overall appearance and beauty of a product. Finishing includes choice of techniques and all other activities that enhance the outlook of leather products. Semi-Aniline Finish Leather – Semi-aniline finish leather is aniline dyed or stained using a small quantity of pigment so that the natural characteristics of the hide is visible. This is first saturated in dyes and later on given light coating of dyes and pigments on the surface. The treatment of semi-transparent stains provides protection against fading but do not completely obscure the surface. This type of leather would be considered next to aniline leather. While there are many types of leather, often, folks will be curious about the “5 types of leather”. What they are generally referring to are the volume and layers of the original hide that are still present in the end product. These are full grain, top grain, genuine, split grain, and bonded leather, and much detail about each will be shared.

Generally, a very simple paint brush will work great. Detail isn’t so much important here as is proper coverage of the dye onto the leather piece. Rag/Cloth Whereas unfinished leathers are raw meaning it may not have a color or may have some form of color (dye) that is seated in the pores of the leather unlike that of finished coatings that sit on the surface of the leather. What is topcoat leather? A single cut or hole over 6” can be allowed. There might also be grain defects, or a series of closely-located smaller holes that comprise a surface area larger than 1 ft. sq. In general, number three graded hides should at least yield a 50% usable surface area. The shoulder cut of a leather hide comes from the shoulder area of the animals. This area generally has a firm, yet malleable and flexible feel to it. Shoulder cuts work well for tooling. Double Shoulder Leather Cut
