About this deal

Hifiman’s Edition XS has been my favorite headphone since its launch and I listen to it every day, so I’m pretty well acquainted with its sound signature. I’ll be testing the Lavricables Ultimate Line 24 AWG litz cable with the Edition XS. The sample I received uses Lavricables’ own plugs and connectors. The headphone cable costs about 250 USD. Here are the specifications including pretty much everything about the cable;

Fiio LT3 USB-C to Lightning also work well and advertise lossless support. You can feel it is a well-made cable but I spend most of my time on an iPad so I can just say they work well. (you can find the best price at Audio46) However, the Believer can offer no empirical evidence to confirm their beliefs. Chapter 4: Anatomy of a Headphone Cable

If the replacement cable increases the listener’s pleasure, the cost to upgrade becomes far more justifiable. Just approach cable replacement as a tweak. Best case, it should provide improved aesthetics, durability and construction as well as a subtle sound improvement. All audio tweaks should be a small percentage of the cost of the major components of the stereo chain, where the most dramatic changes and improvements to the quality of sound will come from replacing the headphones themselves.

Strain Relief– the transition from the cable to the rigid connector – intended to prevent load applied to the cable from being transferred to the connection. Please note that this article will focus primarily on analog headphone cables (and extension cables), rather than digital connections (such as USB or Lightning). With that said, wireless Bluetooth headphones will only be impacted when connected with an optional analog detachable cable. Claimed Improvements in Expensive Cables i'm in love with the splitter and chin slider (which is tight, it doesn't slide by its own). they are metallic, aluminum probably; the shape and text remind who and where they are made in, according with the minimalist design. Any item returned must be complete with all accessories, hardware, manuals, or instructions, and in the same "new" condition as when it was when shipped to you. Please send us photos or videos of it. The theory behind cryogenic treatment is that when the temperature is set below -300 F, molecular changes would occur in metals. This would then increase the conductivity of the cable. The ‘grain structure’ of the molecules becomes permanently tighter and more uniform, reportedly reducing noise and improving electron flow. Here is something that will get some people’s eyes rolling or burst out in laughter. Even the solder used will change the sonic signature of a cable. If I made three identical cables, used Cardas Quad Eutectic on one cable, WBT silver solder on another and Kester 60/40 on the last, these three cables will effect what you hear from the component or headphone in this case. The differences are subtle but are noticeable enough I can tell the difference in a blind A/B. i've compared frequency response and distortion using different types of wire (same conditions), and the difference, if any, is not noticeable. so no tonal variation. there is an exception of this, when using sensitive balanced armatures (hybrids included) earphones; resistance of the cable is added to output impedance of your source; above 1Ω (total) can alter tonal response noticeably (high frequencies specially). this is another reason to seek for minimal resistance cables. in my experience, i'd aim to cable resistance below 200mΩ (equivalent to 26awg conductor) per signal. i've found softer and more flexible wires, because the conductor is thinner and not so tight twisted and/or the sleeve material is TPU or kind of silicone. here, the sleeve is a stronger thin PVC; guess this protect the conductor better from scratches and cuts, and prevent de-coloration (as advertised), but it's a bit rougher and stiffer than softer plastics..one thing that caught my attention, is the braid work. most 8 cores wires i've seen are differently braided; the result is like a prism, while this is like a cylinder. With GuCraftsman's cable with the UE900s, I heard a staging improvement along with tighter bass, fuller mid-bass and the best part - a much clearer presentation all across the spectrum with supreme instrument separation. But it is a very neutral sound - nothing over emphasized (but of course its job is to retain the character of your IEM without making any noise - and it does it better than any that I have heard before). Still, you may be surprised what an upgraded IEM cable can do. Again, note that this was my first try with Gu's cables and so it was the cheapest too. But I believe it made small yet noticeable upgrade in the sound. Without measurements to support the descriptions, fuel is added to the debate. Chapter 1: The Spectrum of Belief
