The FX V2 chronograph itself is a wireless radar-based chronograph. It communicates via Bluetooth to either your smart phone or the FX Chrono-graph Display (sold separately). The app (available for both iOS and Android) does more than just show the feet per second of the projectile. It allows users to store multiple rifle profiles, shows shot strings, standard deviations, extreme spreads and much more. Capable of recording velocities from 400-4000FPS it has applications for both Airguns and full bore rifles alike. Convenience After the last shot I looked at the icons at the bottom of the screen. What would I like to see? I’d like to see the first string, because at this point, that’s what I’m interested in. So I touched the Shot String icon with my finger and the string came up. Simply strap the unit to the end of the barrel, open the app and start recording the speed of your shots. We learned when we looked at the FX Dreamlite rifle that FX doesn’t do paper manuals very well. But not with this chronograph, because it has no paper manual at all. I went online to the Pyramyd AIR manuals (in the resources section) thinking the manual had just been left out of the box. No — there is no manual — as in none, nada, kein, ingen! While FX is an airgun manufacturer and states it on the chronograph, you know someone is going to try it on a firearm. Do they specifically say on the box not to put it on a firearm? The app records speed, custom profiles, calibres and gives multiple readouts depending on what you require. Store and save your data, or export it to use in other programs. The App can call out the numbers as you shoot, so no need to take your eye off your target. FX is always looking for ways to revolutionize and improve their customers experience, and they decided to find a way to offer the best of both worlds, a chronograph of high quality that is surprisingly affordable. It's important to know that due to state and local laws, there are certain restrictions for various products. The initial version of the app left other more important things to be desired. The list included: a readout that shows the Max, Min and Average velocities as well as the extreme spread (ES) and standard deviation (SD) of a string; the ability to switch between units of measurement and between muzzle velocityMV) and muzzle energy (ME) without editing the gun profile. Plus, the export of complete profile and session data to the clipboard; and not having the app drop the Bluetooth connection each time you switch profiles, or open another window on your phone, a small thing, but properly annoying!

The chronograph is mounted to the barrel of the Air Arms S510XS. As you see, it took two wraps for each rubber band. The test under the size of a 2” cube. It now has an internal battery that is recharged through an included USB-C cord. Multiple mounts are also included that allows the shooter to attach the chronograph to their rifle in multiple ways. There is also a slot on the bottom side that allows you to mount the chrono on an edge, for example a fence. However, on the 9th shot the nice lady said nothing. And the display on my phone didn’t change. Oh — I’ve seen this before. The chronograph didn’t record that shot! Sure enough when the 10th pellet went out the spout the chrono thought it was shot number nine and recorded it that way.

Problems and solutions When I tested the same rifle and pellet at the same power level in September 2019 the average was 941 f.p.s. and the spread went from a high of 958 down to 933 — a 25 f.p.s. difference. Based on just that we see that the two chronographs agree closely. But I will still test them together in the future. Then it occurred to me that if my smart phone was recording each shot, perhaps it was also making a list, just like the ones I always used to make on paper. Sure enough, it was!
