About this deal

Sand the surface in the direction of the grain to remove any imperfections etc. and remove residues with a damp lint free cloth. Apply 2 or 3 coats evenly and consistently, taking care to keep the 'wet edge' alive and finish off along the grain. New or bare wood: Sand the surface in the direction of the grain to remove any imperfections etc. and remove residues with a damp lint free cloth. Seal all new or bare wood by applying one coat of Clear Gloss Diamond Glaze, to help reduce variations in absorbency which can lead to differences in colour and sheen, particularly when working with coloured topcoats of Diamond Glaze. Stir thoroughly before you begin, taking care not to use a whipping motion, which will introduce air and cause foaming when applied. Wood stains or dyes may be used prior to applying Dulux Diamond Glaze Varnish. It is recommended that a water-based stain be used

Whilst the he Dulux Diamon Glaze varnish is a very popular product, Iroko tends to be naturally high in oil which in turn can cause adhesion issues if varnishes are applied. We recommend to degrease the wood with methylated spirits to allow varnish to adhere or oil to absorb. Additionally, if the varnish has not yet cured, if moisture gets in between the finish, this can cause a milky bloom to appear and it can take a while for the trapped moisture to evaporate. All traces of grease, wax and polish must be completely removed prior to applying Diamond Glaze Varnish Diamond Glaze is up to ten times tougher than conventional varnish and is resistant to common chemicals, alcohol and water. Suitable for use over materials such as cork tiles, hardwood and chipboards.

Coated surfaces in poor condition: Where the existing coating is defective it must be completely removed and the surface prepared as described for new or bare wood above. After cleaning or stripping a test area, place a drop of water on the bare wood - if it forms a bead, wax is still present and Diamond Glaze should not be used without thorough preparation. If the water disperses, carry out the application/adhesion tests above before proceeding with cleaning, stripping and priming. I am sorry to hear that your project did not turn out as expected, I suspect this may be due to the high oil content in dense hardwoods such as Iroko.

Why choose Dulux Trade?

Floor Sanding: To achieve an even appearance, prepare the floor by using an industrial drum sander and edge sander (available from a local hire shop). Always sand in the direction of the grain. A belt sander or orbital sander can be used for smaller areas. Remove all dust from floor and surrounding areas using suitable vacuum equipment. Light foot traffic is allowed after 24 hours but to prevent possible damage to floor while the full mechanical resistance develops, avoid heavy wear and do not replace carpet or rugs or move furniture for at least 7 days after application. Test a small clean area first, sand with 120 grit abrasive and dust off. Apply a test patch of Diamond Glaze - if the Glaze leaves uncoated spots, the surface is contaminated and needs to be stripped. If the film formed is unblemished, leave for 24 hours then test for adhesion by scraping with a coin. If the surface is sound, continue with preparation and priming as described above. Surfaces should be protected from water, steam, spillages and hard stress, for example abrasion or polishing, for a minimum of 5 days after application. Before using coloured Diamond Glaze Varnish on base wood, pre-seal with a coat of Diamond Glaze Varnish Clear Gloss to minimise colour absorption differences.
