Emollients help soften, moisturise and protect the skin. They play a central role in the treatment and management of dry skin conditions. For maximum effect, they should be applied regularly and as often as needed. These are known as emollients. When used as part of your normal showering routine the product helps to:

Doublebase Shower and Doublebase Wash are both highly moisturising and effective Soap Substitutes that cleanse, moisturise and protect your skin. They prevent the skin-drying and irritant effects that can be caused by showering and by the detergents, foaming additives and fragrances used in ordinary shower and wash products. Fast Absorbing and Unscented – This lotion is fast absorbing and unscented, for healthy looking skin that feels softerAt bath-time, emollient bath oils can be added to bath water to cover the skin in a layer of emollient oils. This is very useful for children who have baths as part of their daily routine or as an additional way of hydrating and protecting you or your child’s dry skin.

Try to avoid using normal soaps or cleansing products (even those labelled “moisturising”). This is because they tend to dry and irritate the skin. Avoid using products containing fragrances, as these can also cause skin problems. You should try to use a fragrance-free emollient “soap substitute” instead. This type of product will not foam or lather but will be better for your dry skin condition. Most ordinary soaps are very drying to the skin and can be irritant, particularly when used on dry skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis and elderly dry skin.
