The study I looked at found it unlikely to be a problem unless you pretty much poured a tankerload in a river, but it is clearly a concern worth noting. As Eugenol is broken down quite rapidly, it is not expected to be of any environmental concern at the level used here, as it is not persistent in the environment. There is a nice fresh minty taste, without the dusty, chalky and clumpy texture that can come with some other products. All the ones I tried have a bit of a powdery taste for the first few seconds as it reacts with water/saliva to create a paste.
