About this deal

A more mature version of Audio-Technica’s AT-LP120USB, the AT-LP140XP features Technics-like DJ components such as the platter strobe/light, forward/reverse operation, variable pitch control and a retractable light. Pour des personnes connaissant ce type de produit, l'assemblage se fait sans réfléchir, et le réglage du bras est très précis. Un réel plaisir de manipuler cette qualité de produit, je n'ai pas trouvé de défaut... Designed to connect to components with a dedicated phono input, the turntable comes with a detachable dual RCA output cable and supplies a strong 5.5 mV output. Au niveau de l'écoute, c'est parfait, et le petit plus: l'isolation de la platine, même avec un niveau sonore XXL, pas d'accroche, une très bonne surprise! The result was a score draw. The RT83 provided a complex midrange, layered with detail and a sense of refinement that the 140 couldn’t match. That said, the 140 was better in transient terms. The notion of notes starting and stopping on the dot. That element of precision and focus was notable with the 140. On this point, the 140 left the RT83 in its dust. Vocally, the RT83 provided a superior emotional complexity. An impassioned delivery that gave the RT83 a fragility and sensitivity. The 140 offered more life and vitality in the vocals. It provided greater energy and oomph to the vocal performance. Bass had character and an organic sense from the RT83 but greater punch and slam via the 140.

Niveau moteur, c'est parfait, couple très élevé, faites ce que vous voulez avec le plateau, le moteur suit avec une grande réactivité! That means that whether you’re placing the tonearm and stylus into the record groove to play a record or lifting the tonearm off the record once the final song finishes and returning it to its rest—you will be fully responsible for these tasks. The PLX-500 is clearly a much more humble offering than the PLX-1000 but that’s no reason to write it off. At this price point it holds its own as an alternative to the likes of the Audio-Technica AT LP140XP or Numark NTX1000. More info/Buy ProsThe small submarine periscope for illuminating the needle can be lowered into the turntable chassis and, like the Technics classic, raised again at the push of a hydraulic button. This is less smooth than with the “original” and didn’t always work without problems with the test device: I sometimes had to pull out the needle illumination with both fingertips. In contrast to my veteran Technics SL-1210 Mk2, the plate arm also seems lighter and therefore less vibration-free. You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail. The underside feels soberingly plastic, the four adjustable plastic feet are well cushioned and completely okay for the price range, but not nearly as solid as Technics. On the left and right on the outside there are practical grooved grip recesses, thanks to which the turntable can be easily lifted and carried. After a short adjustment, the turntable is ready to play. Audio Technica AT-LP140XP Review – Usage

Both the AT-LP120-USB and AT-LP140XP turntables use a detachable AC power cord. AC to DC conversion is done inside the turntable. The AT-LP120XUSB turntable uses an AC adapter that handles AC/DC conversion outside the turntable, reducing noise in the signal chain. The S-shaped arm on both the 120 and 140 looks the same and includes an attendant anti-skate wheel, arm lift, secure arm rest clip plus the useful wheel at the base of the arm to change the arm’s height. All models are fully manual in operation. There are NO automatic functions. To start and stop the rotation of the record platter, press the Start/Stop button at any time. To place the stylus (needle) on the record, raise the tonearm from the tonearm rest by raising the cueing lever. Use your hand to move the tonearm over to the desired location on the record then lower the arm to the record by lowering the lever. At the end of play, raise the arm by raising the cueing lever, use your hand to return the tonearm to the tonearm rest and lower the arm to the rest by lowering the lever. The AT-LP140XP also has three pitch ranges: +/-8%, +/-16% and +/- 24%. This eclipses both the AT-LP120-USB and AT-LP120XUSB, which both only come with two pitch ranges (+/-10% and +/- 20% for the AT-LP120-USB and +/-8% and +/-16% for the AT-LP120XUSB). As you can see, just based on some of the key features discussed in this section, the Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB may have been succeeded by the AT-LP120XUSB, but it still has specs that not only can match the AT-LP120XUSB, but in some cases surpass it. As they're built for DJs, if you're simply playing music, you can probably find something of similar sound quality, if not better, at a lower price. As The Audiophile Man writes, DJ accessories can hinder sound quality, because the features "inject a measure of noise into the signal." It boils down to a question of need: "What the hi-fi gods give with one hand, they take away with another."

The 140, like the 120, provides the usual DJ tools. On the 140, you’ll find a platter strobe/light, forward/reverse operation, variable pitch control and retractable light. Once you unbox the AT-LP140XP, I think there’s a few things you’ll be able to instantly appreciate about this turntable.Carefully place the aluminum record platter on the turntable’s center spindle, making sure it fully seats on the spindle.
