The book’s plot revolves around a murder investigation, with Burke acting as the lead investigator on the case. That investigation only draws him closer to the horrifying secrets the town hides. Burke soon discovers that the knowledge he’s amassed so far doesn’t offer the full picture. Except that within its fences, the residents are told where to work, how to live, and who to marry. None of them know how they got here. Some believe they are dead. Others think they’re trapped in an unfathomable experiment.
