Hunter, Dave (2012). Amped - The Illustrated History of the World's Greatest Amplifiers. Voyageur Press. p.106. ISBN 9780760339725. Vox expanded the "teardrop" line to include the V252 Mark VI"thin line"electro acoustic guitar, the V231 Mark IXnine string guitar, the V223 Mark XII twelve string guitar, the V224 Mark IV bass guitar and the V248 Wyman bass. Tom Jennings set up a new company in his old Dartford location, joined later by Denney. Jennings Electronic Industries operated for several years, making an updated and rebadged version of the AC30 along with other amplifiers, as well as a new range of organs. The unit was a JMI creation called the Hank B. Marvin, named for the influential guitarist of the Shadows, a U.K. beat group best known for its instrumental hit “Apache.” The design was essentially taken from the Bigsby template, with a roller bar added to aid string tension. The Mark VI was released in three versions, as a 6-string, a 9-string, and a 12-string. The 9-string had three wound strings and three pairs of unwound strings.

The serial numbers of the guitars that were produced and sold via the authorized U.S. Vox dealer network during the official 2007 production run are as follows:

In 1966, Vox introduced the Guitar Organ, a Phantom VI guitar with internal organ electronics. John Lennon was given one in a bid to secure an endorsement, although he did not record with it. [17] Someone in the guitar development department at Vox must have determined that the octave string pairs for the D, A and low E strings on a twelve string guitar were not essential. This conclusion led to the development of a modifiied Mark XII twelve string guitar with nine strings. The treble side of the fret board had three unison pairs of strings, the bass side had three single strings. Vox developed a line of analog effects pedals dubbed Cooltron, designed to offer guitarists vintage-sounding overdrive, compression, boost, distortion and tremolo. The pedals used low-power 12AU7 tubes to create vintage soft-clipping preamplification. Two of the Cooltron pedals, the Big Ben Overdrive and the Bulldog Distortion, won the Guitar World magazine Platinum Award. [28]The Monkees concealed themselves in large empty Vox cabinet and emerged from them as a grand entrance to the opening of the shows on the 1967 tour and they used real Vox amps for the performances. The"Mark" series guitars and basses had the largest commercial success of all Vox guitars produced during the British Invasion. By 1965, the popularity and world wide demand for Vox guitars caused JMI to supplement UKproduction at Eko in Italy. Vox V 809 Repeat Percussion effect operated by PP3 9 volt battery, direct plug-in or by in-line cable Vox named this new "teardrop"model the "Phantom Mark VI" guitar when it was introduced in 1963. Before long, the Phantomname was dropped on the teardrop model to avoid confusion with the original Phantom VI. The teardrop was simply renamed the "Mark VI". The Jennings Organ Company was founded by Thomas Walter Jennings in Dartford Kent, England after World War II. Jennings's first successful product was the Univox, an early self-powered electronic keyboard similar to the Clavioline.

Brian Jones was a fan early in his Stones career, playing a custom Vox that introduced the public to the Mark III's strange 'teardrop' shape. He made quite an impression - the likes of Tom Petty, Robert Smith of The Cure and Sergio Pizzorno of Kasabian have since been spotted wielding one - and now Vox, in all its wisdom, has reissued the Mark III. Korg/Vox evolved the Valvetronix line from 2010 to 2019, pushed the emulation capacity to 33 different models in the VT+ Series, added a premium VTX 150 variant with professional-grade features, and revised the modeling engine called Virtual Element Technology (VET) engineered to more accurately represent classic sounds. Vox mobile and desktop software were introduced with the 2015 VT20X and VT40X, offering players the ability to further customize sounds.

Rose Morris bought Vox in 1978 before its distribution deal with Marshall ended. The company attempted to reinvigorate the Vox brand, continuing to build the AC30 along with several new and modern amplifiers. [19]

Tear-inducing classic electric guitar

The Jennings Scene" Solid-State Amplifier Product Catalog - Cover 1968-1969". Vox Showroom. North Coast Music . Retrieved 27 July 2020. Soon after Vox entered the guitar marketplace with student grade models in 1961, their development of professional level instruments commenced. Vox modelling technology was condensed into the Vox Mini3 (sans the tube preamp) in 2010, a compact, battery-powered, portable amp with separate mic input and controls for busking. [24] The vibrato tailpiece found on this Mark XII would be odd on any 12-string, and not very desirable from a tuning standpoint. Regardless, it’s a cool visual feature and makes for some bold and unusual sounds.
