About this deal

In the UK, this vacuum is called the Shark DuoClean & Anti Hair Wrap Bagless Cylinder Pet Vacuum CZ500UKT. However, the same model in the US goes under the name Shark Vertex Bagless Corded Canister Vacuum with DuoClean Powerfins. Meanwhile, in Australia, it’s called the Shark Bagless Barrel Pet Vacuum with Multi-flex CZ500. Despite Shark’s penchant for a different name in every territory, the vacuum is virtually the same no matter where you are. The biggest difference is that in the US it doesn’t come with the powered pet tool. We’ve broken down what’s on offer to help you settle on the features that meet your vacuuming needs.

There’s no getting around the fact that this vacuum is bulky, heavy and noisy but that’s the way with most upright vacuums. What you get in return is a machine which makes light work of pet hair, dust and crumbs on both carpets and hard floors. The Bissell PowerLifter bagless vacuum excels in cleaning pet hair because of its power, but also special attention to details. We’re big fans of the Shark Stratos Cordless Vacuum (also reviewed in our best vacuums for pet hair piece) but the corded just takes the edge for power. This corded model has 450 Watts of power, compared to the cordless which only has a 309 Watt motor. Plus - the corded is cheaper. But which cylinder vacuum is best for you? From Dyson to Shark to Henry, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite products, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users. According to professional cleaner Katerina Petrova of the Happy House Cleaning Company, that largely depends on the area you have to clean, as well as your budget. In many cases, the bagless vacuums are also more efficient as they are less likely to get clogged and need more power to maintain suction. This ends up costing less in electricity over time, as well. Just like the original Henry, the Pet Pro comes with a range of useful tools and a huge nine-litre capacity, meaning he has an insatiable appetite for dust and dirt. But like Henry, this vacuum cleaner is also heavy and bulky, so the Pet Pro’s size is something that would need to be taken into account when purchasing. In a nutshell, a cylinder vacuum cleaner is a vac broken down into two parts - the main body, which is on wheels and pulled along behind as you vacuum, and the suction head. The two are joined together by the hose. The humble cylinder vacuum may not be as high tech as its cordless or robot counterparts, but it cleans just as well, if not better. Cylinder vacuums are typically more powerful and have a larger dust capacity, so need emptying less frequently. They also have a larger cleaning radius — the length of the cord — than upright vacuums. That’s why you’ll find the professionals use this type of vacuum cleaner in offices and hotels. Are cylinder vacuums better than upright?

While an upright vacuum cleanerhas its advantages, cylinder models are extremely popular with our customers. Suitable for smaller homes, they're perfect for cleaning hard-to-reach areas. However some cylinder vacs are on the bulky side (looking at you, Henry) which may make them harder to manoeuvre and store than a traditional, upright vacuum. In terms of suction and power, cylinders can more than hold their own against uprights. How to choose the best cylinder vacuum cleaner In most cases, the cylinder is clear on a bagless vacuum so you can see when it is full and needs to be emptied. Not needing to open it up to see how much dirt is in there also makes for tidier upkeep. Opening up a bagged vacuum can spill dust making more work for yourself. Robot vacuums if we’re honest are still more of a novelty than a must-have, but this is the one to get, especially with the discounts currently available. It auto-updates its software over wi-fi, so won’t be obsolete for a good while yet.

The clear canister can easily be seen when it is full and ready to be emptied. And emptying it is simplicity itself. A one-hand operation all the way through allows you to remove the dust box and empty it over the bin as it opens from the bottom. Miele Cat and Dog – 13 years and as good as the day I got it. Endless dogs and animals here and it’s no problem.” (Tried and tested by Mumsnet user SummerDayWinterEvenings) The suction level can be regulated with an easy to use dial. Use the high speed for floors and low speed for carpet. Deep pile rugs, however, can use something in the middle.

The hose extends to 5 times its size. You can leave the vacuum at the bottom of the stairs and clean most stairways without needing to lift the vacuum every step of the way. The Shark DuoClean & Anti Hair Wrap Bagless Cylinder Pet Vacuum CZ500UKT has many benefits, but it's fair to say it's not a super slim vac. It arrived in my flat in a pretty large box, and it was heavy to get up even one flight of stairs. The unboxing process was fine, though it seems like things could have been squeezed in more efficiently. Sebo have been specialising in vacuum cleaners for over thirty years, so you know a product by them is one you can rely on. Not only is this an economical choice based on the price you pay for it, but it saves money long-term in electricity costs since the motor is efficient. Add to that the savings in vacuum bags and HEPA filters, and you have a winning formula for a vacuum. Regardless of all of the various elements, from the first use of this vacuum, I was impressed. It slots together really easily, and I absolutely loved the control panel being accessible on the handle, meaning you don't need to bend down and switch the machine on at the main body. Instead, you can get going straight away, and you have control over the different speed and suction settings at your fingertips, which is great.Dyson is famous for its innovative and well-designed vacuums. The Dyson multi-floor vacuum has so many small details considered that it is hard to beat as far as performance goes. So why didn’t it take the top spot for lightweight vacuums? At just 260 x 900 x 1180mm, the Shark CZ500UKT is a small cylinder vacuum cleaner. It looks great, though, with plenty of curves and rose gold details around the body. It weighs 7.99kg, which makes it quite a heavy cleaner overall – but that weight is across the body, tools and wand. The main body weighs just 4kg, making it quite easy to lift. For attachments, you get a crevice tool, a soft brush head for dusting and an upholstery brush head.
