About this deal

Everlasting” really is the key word here. RedgrassGames’ wet palette will keep your paints ready and waiting for you for as long as you could possibly need – and, as a result, could quite possibly be the best wet palette currently on the market. RedgrassGames Everlasting Wet Palette Review – Introduction Spending some money to make sure I have enough time is the right solution, and I was wasting time making something (badly) that I could buy (cheap, for good quality). Premium wet palettes Once done, just add some paint. it should act like I described above and bead on the paper when you add water, rather than spread out.

If the wet palette are to provide you with any value, you have to use it. To use it, it needs to do what it needs to do without being a hindrance. This means: This is the only retail option where the lid actually clips to the base, the clips are a bit flimsy but it makes sure you won’t get paint everywhere if you drop it when transporting it to the fridge for storage. Now that’s all done, I’m going to go and change my hydration sheet… Will RedgrassGames’ Everlasting Wet Palette Improve my Hobby? There you go, it’s a simple process with one minor (yes probably obvious) tweak you have a great wet palette that will last years. I was able to put the Khorne Red straight onto the weapons of my Assault Intercessors without any difficulties at all, and after a good four or five coats, the colour was really starting to look rather good.

Now, one thing I noticed when dealing with this particular metallic paint was that the palette, not having been watered for a good twenty-odd hours at this point (a working day happened between me stirring my red and starting my silver), was beginning to get a little dry and, as such, did not begin to thin the paint as effectively as it had the previous day when freshly soaked. A wet palette is simple really. You have a small container with some sort of sponge at the bottom. You make that sponge wet and on top of the sponge you put some sort of paper on it. You put the paint onto that paper. Redgrass Games Wet-Palette Painter V2 is the direct follow-on from Redgrass Games company launching Wet Palette. Redgrass made their name by famously launching one of the first retail wet palettes aimed specifically at miniature painters. from there they have grown to a good staple business within the hobby. It has been annoying having to add more water when necessary, especially if I’ve had diluted paints because it just causes them to run. In the set I had, the paper is the same dimensions as the foam, which as I said above is the same as the recess in the tray. as soon as you put the paper on the foam it will crease as it absorbs some of the water. This is normal, just like any other brand or even Baking parchment / Papet ( again, the DIY stuff is named differently depending on where you live). You then smooth the paper out which causes it to stretch very slightly.

By the time I’d finished applying my half a dozen ultra-thin coats to my Assault Intercessors, it was beginning to get late and I had other things to do. So, at approximately 19:30, I dropped a small globule of Khorne Red onto the wet palette and closed it up. Looking a little green after the “how much water is too much water” test, which for some weird reason I decided to carry out mid-basing.I’ve had my eyes opened to so much from my brief time using this product, and as I was painting my figures I could actually feel myself getting better. Ever experienced that the paint on your palette starts to dry out while using it? So in the start everything goes great, but then it starts to clump up? Your palette should be big enough to hold the amount of paint you need for at least one session of painting. Plus, that the palette is not watertight simultaneously means it is not airtight, which does mean that, even in storage, whatever paints you have prepped on your palette will eventually dry out.

And here comes the deal: Thanks to the unique coating you can rinse the membrane under tap water and rub off any remaining paint with your fingers or a soft brush. As long as the paint retained some of its moisture you will be able to remove it very easily, and it shouldn’t be a problem to repeat this process up to ten times, just as promised by Redgrass Games. It’s a neat feature which is nice to have included. If you’re limited in your hobby area, having a palette which doubles up as a brush holder could be really useful to you. Another use case is if you transport your painting kit quite often, yet again it’s useful to have one piece of kit for brush storage which is also your palette. The Lid The sponge seems amazing. It holds water really good and light pressure will make the water seep through it. The whole thing is completely flat so you avoid those bugging creases. Keep your miniature paint wet and workable for long with the Everlasting Wet Palette Painter Lite from Redgrassgames, our most advanced hydration system yet at our most affordable price. All the DIY solutions have been made out of some kind of container normally used to store food or something else. Another thing the palette helped me with was brush control – this was especially needed when I was highlighting the raised edges with Gauss Blaster Green. Such a harrowing task was made all the easier as I was able to use the damp hydration sheet to keep the brush bristles sharp and flat before they hit the model. Well, if you’ve added too little, your paints will dry start to go dry, and patches of the hydration paper will also remain dry to the touch. Whilst your paper shouldn’t be soggy or saturated, it should be damp to the touch. Not big issues, but small things that made sure I never loved those DIY solutions. As time goes, I have found that having enough time for my hobby is the biggest concern.

With that hurdle over, its time to get it wet. Run the palette under the tap until the foam pad is absolutely drenched. After that, tip the excess water out – the water level should not exceed the height of the foam pad itself. You want enough water for it to be slimy to the touch, but not too much that you’re holding a puddle in your hands. But if you aren’t using a palette at all, then I assume you are scooping your paints straight out of the pot and splurging them onto your miniatures with no dilution, which is a thousand times worse than any of the above. Seriously, two thin coats memes, anyone? RedgrassGames Everlasting Wet Palette Review – Contents They are soft and spongy, and easy to clean out after use. It’s also mould resistant, but if you’re not planning to paint for a while, I’d recommend wringing the foam of its moisture and keeping it dry until you next plan to paint. It is low enough to not get in the way, but high enough to hold the sponge, water and paper. It does not feel clunky, even with the lid on The reason a semi-permeable layer is added is so the paint can absorb the water but the sponge/tissue won’t absorb the paint. So all the wet palette really does is letting some water through a piece of paper and that helps your paint be moist and at the right consistency while you work with it and through the whole painting session. You wet the absorbent layer and put the permeable paper on top of this. Any paint put on top of that will absorb water through from below, keeping it wet.
