About this deal

Of course fog lights are a useful extra tool when visibility is poor, but they won't make you invincible. Use common sense - if you can't see very far ahead, slow down, and keep a good distance to the car in front of you. If there's fog, the roads are likely to be slippery, too, so give yourself more room to brake and slow down. When NOT to use fog lights

CARS.COM — Driving home one night, I pulled onto the highway on a dark but clear evening behind an older Jaguar XJ sedan and was blinded by the driver’s fog lights, even though there wasn’t a bit of fog that evening. How could I tell that his fog lights were on from behind the car? Because, like so many Americans, this driver didn’t seem to understand what the fog light switch does in his fancy European luxury vehicle: Sometimes, the switch for the fog lights turns on a light in the rear. Basically, the argument FOR dual rear fogs is centered strictly around using them ONLY in cases of severe fog. The dual set up improves visability for the following driver, (he will see you sooner), and two lights set far apart gives depth perception to the following driver which a single light can not give. In the UK, street lights on 30mph roads are placed no more than 200 yards (183 metres) apart. So a good rule of thumb for using your fog lights is whether you can see the next street light up the road from the one you're passing. Use this rule, and it's clear that it's only going to be in the foggiest or snowiest conditions that fog lights should be used. Or an equally common question, “I think I have a rear fog light out, only the driver’s side seems to work.”

Fog lights fine

Rear fog lights should always be switched on whenever visibility is poor, as they are there to alert other road users of your presence, not just to give you a clearer view of what’s behind you. When Should You Not Use Fog Lights? Will You Be Fined For That? Obviously fog lights aren't needed when it's dry, and there's not much point in turning them on when it's dark, either. The lamp housings don’t have the same kind of reflectors as main beam headlights, so they are unlikely to give you any extra light to help you see where you are going.

It would appear DVLA can't agree with itself ! I note you don't mention any requirement for the height of reflectors. Thus the new relay coil is activated by my new fog light switch, only if the side lights are on and the rear fog light circuit is injected with 12v from the rear lights instead of via the MFU at the front. Well I haven't seen that on an 8K A4, but similar problems on the 4F A6 are common due to a burnt out earth pin on the rear light unit bulb holder and its plug but this gives a dash warning. Is the bulb warning coming up on the dash? We are also seeing this earth terminal issue on the 8J TT now.No warning on car at all. Have changed both bulbs today and it's exactly the same. Light on the switch comes on for around a second then goes off.I have changed the red MFU module in the rear of the interior fuse box for another. Neither make any difference. As per the Highway Code, fog lights should be switched off when the visibility is normal, or if it improves after a period of being foggy. Leaving the fog lights on can dazzles drivers ahead. Neither the front nor the rear fog lights can be left turned on when your vehicle is parked, or you may get fined for incorrect usage of your fog lights. Do All Cars Have Fog Lights?
