Razer’s HyperSpeed wireless tech supports the HyperSpeed multi-device functionality, which means the DeathStalker V2 Pro’s USB-A dongle can support two compatible Razer peripherals (a keyboard and a mouse) simultaneously. Unfortunately, I don’t currently have a HyperSpeed-compatible Razer mouse in house to test this with, but it’s a pretty useful feature if you’re short on USB ports. (Your other option for reclaiming USB ports is to use the keyboard’s Bluetooth 5.0 connection instead of 2.4GHz wireless. You can connect to three Bluetooth-enabled devices simultaneously, and switch between them using the Bluetooth profile buttons along the top of the keyboard.) The battery life is decent and just about on par with the G915. Razer has given it a 40-hour rating, but that’s only if you’ve got your RGB lighting set at 50%. Increase its brightness to 100%, and you’ve got about 24 hours of use, which means 3 days of 8-hour gaming/typing sessions. The switch slides to 2.4GHz mode. Save any open documents on your computer and close all other programs before attempting the update. The keyboard can now be used on 2.4 GHz or Bluetooth wireless modes while it is being charged via Type C cable. That still isn’t bad. However, if you’re one to forget to regularly charge or you just despise having to charge in general, you probably should reduce RGB brightness to 50%.
Apart from that, the Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro TKL requires no tweaking. It’s an absolute pleasure to use, despite the fact that its keys do feel slightly mushy. The keycaps are soft to the touch, and the optical switches are lightning fast, boasting an actuation of 1.2mm and requiring only 45g of force. That allows it to be very responsive, even with minimal pressure, which I also found helps keep finger and wrist fatigue at bay. Spending more might be worth it to some people, however, if they want the fastest wireless connectivity and simultaneous connectivity to several devices. However, if they don’t mind being tethered to their PC or having an ever so slightly slower wireless connection that isn’t discernible to most people anyway, one of the aforementioned options above might be of better value to you. (Image credit: Daniel Rubino) The DeathStalker V2 Pro offers three connection options: 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.0, and wired (via USB-C). For gaming, and anything where latency and lag might be an issue, you’ll want to connect using the 2.4GHz wireless connection, which features Razer’s “industry-leading” HyperSpeed wireless tech, which is — according to Razer — 25 percent faster than any other wireless tech. (Of course, 2.4GHz wireless is already a pretty speedy, low-latency connection.) The camera cuts to a wider shot as the whole keyboard is pelted with even stronger impacts, but it remains unphased as the green energy field withstands the onslaught.
At this price point, you'd expect some serious finish quality and we're happy to report that's what you're getting. Though there are still some compromises worth noting too. A band of red light casts over the center portion of the switch, causing the area to turn holographic. We cut to a shot of the keyboard with its switches revealed. They actuate with such speed that a green energy erupts from a central key, supercharging the keyboard. As I mentioned earlier in this review, the Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro TKL costs just as much as the Logitech G915 Lightspeed TKL did when it came out three years ago. So, in a way and factoring in inflation, it's actually better value. However, it's still a pretty expensive piece of kit that not many would be willing to pay for a PC gaming accessory. In another blinding flash, the holographic area collapses as the switch transforms into a slimmer, lowprofile form factor.One thing that's sure though is the frame feels solid and you certainly feel like you've got a premium keyboard in your hands. It's wonderfully low profile and sits comfortably on the desk in a way that means your wrists aren't raised as you type. Far more pleasant than standard keyboards in our mind. If you are using a laptop, ensure it is plugged into a wall outlet and notrunning on battery before proceeding.
The media button and roller are great as well, but you’ll need to go into the Razer Synapse 3 app to change their settings. At default, the button is only set to play and pause while the roller controls the volume (you press it to mute). The DeathStalker V2 Pro is crafted with quality in mind, which means it includes a durable aluminium top plate and laser-etched ABS keycaps with a "durable" coating. The low profile design of the switches and the keycaps means it's sadly not possible to have the PBT double-shot keycaps you'd usually find on other premium keyboards. That might mean these keycaps wear out more easily over time, but based on the quality we'd suggest that would be after some fairly heavy use.The Synapse software suite also features Razer’s Chroma Studio, Chroma Visualizer and Chroma Connect utilities, which let you customize the keyboard’s per-key RGB lighting with different colors and effects and sync said lighting with other Chroma-equipped Razer peripherals. Digital lines appear along the wrist and fingers, highlighting optimal angles for long-lasting support and comfort. In Synapse, you can remap almost all of the DeathStalker V2 Pro’s primary keybinds (the Windows key, the “Razer HyperShift” function key, and — curiously — the multimedia button cannot be remapped), as well as most of the keys’ secondary keybinds in “HyperShift” mode. The DeathStalker V2 Pro’s small footprint means it doesn’t have any programmable macro keys beyond the usual Fn row, so Razer’s HyperShift, which gives you an entire second keyboard worth of programmable macro keys, is particularly handy here. There are several connectivity options available for versatility. Naturally, it has Razer’s 2.4Ghz HyperSpeed Wireless via the included wireless dongle, but it’s also got three Bluetooth 5.0 connections so you can connect four different sources at once and easily switch from one to the other. And you won’t have to worry about losing that dongle when traveling, as there is a garage underneath. I've been testing gaming keyboards and other PC gaming peripherals for about 10 years. As a keyboard enthusiast, I also own a collection of mechanical keyboards that I've amassed over the years.
