About this deal

Grenade released this flavour in 2016 but, convinced I hated mint chocolate, I’ve waited until now to try it. The orange flavour is just right with this one – it’s not artificial or bitter, and it doesn’t overpower the chocolate flavour. I would have liked something a little more different from the standard Carb Killa range than simply the addition of orange flavour – surely if you’re going to call something ‘Jaffa’ you need a jelly layer… Because this traybake is essentially dryer compared to the Rolo Cookie Bars they will take less time in the oven. Also, the might look slightly underdone, but go by your instinct. Heat a large pot over medium heat. Melt the butter in the pot, then add the marshmallows and stir constantly until melted.

After some more ‘adventurous’ flavours, Grenade have reigned it in with this offering and returned to a chocolatey comfort zone. Grenade have even switched up their usual ‘structure’, swapping the soya crispies for peanut chunks in the chocolate layer. One thing I will flag is something I’ve noticed in all Grenade’s more recent offerings – the slightly higher carb count. Boasting 21g protein, just 1g of sugar and a whole lot of that iconic OREO flavour, this OREO Protein Bar is the real deal. After the successes of my M&M Cookie Bars, and Rolo Cookie Bars, I thought I would do something similar, so the Oreo Cookie Bars happened. HOWEVER… I knew that if I just did a cookie mixture, with some Oreos, it would be too dry. This meant I needed something Chocolatey! I had coincidentally been given one of the ‘Cadbury’s Big Bars’ for Christmas and it was the Oreo one, and this just seemed to ideal to miss it. I’m impressed once again, but as I said, fudge brownie is a pretty standard flavour. It’s not my favourite of the bars so far, but it’s absolutely worth a try, if not only for a break from your average protein bar. Dark Chocolate Mint – 8/10 Texture-wise, it’s pretty similar to the other Grenade bar flavours, except the creme offers a smoother, creamier, texture than Grenade’s usual caramel layer and the Oreo pieces are less crunchy than the crispies found on the likes of Caramel Chaos and Jaffa Quake.

Like most of the other, newer flavours, at 226 this bar has a few more calories than the older range. The carbs are also a little higher at 20g, but this is matched by Grenade’s standard 20g of protein. Recently, Grenade have been nailing their flavours. White Chocolate Salted Peanut, Dark Chocolate Raspberry, and Chocolate Chip Salted Caramel have all been up there with the best of them, but I’ll admit I was skeptical about this one.

Cadbury Snowy Fingers Box (115g)

Inside, it’s the same classic triple-layer bar we’ve come to know and love from Grenade. The base is soft and slightly chewy – a nice chocolate flavour with a hint of mint. Yet I think this bar could have been majorly improved if the chocolate flavour was more intense – maybe with a chocolate creme instead of the caramel layer – and the crunch was more pronounced. In other words, it would have been improved if it had actually lived up to its name… Microwave white baking chips on half power (very important) until melted, stirring every 30 seconds.

Introducing Grenade OREO White Protein Bar - The nation’s favourite high protein, low sugar Protein bar, now with the unmistakable great taste of OREO, the #1 cookie brand in the world! To a large mixing bowl add butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar. Beat with electric mixers (or in your stand mixer) until well creamed together, about 3 minutes. Add egg and vanilla and mix well. The best part by far is the vanilla creme layer. It’s amazingly close to the real thing and the vanilla sweetness perfectly complements the richness of the cocoa base. Like the White Chocolate Salted Peanut, this flavour contains slightly more calories than the earlier bars – 233 calories in this one – and they also contain slightly less protein – 20g compared to 22g in some of the others. The crushed peanuts add an authentic peanut flavour and add a light crunch which does well not to disrupt the overall creaminess of the bar. Texture-wise this bar is a variation on Grenade’s newer formula. It’s soft and fluffy, with a nice crunch from the crispies. The peanut flavour is perfectly savoury, similar to the White Chocolate Peanut bar, and provides a delightful contrast to the sweet strawberry layer. Created in partnership with Oreo, this bar combines real Oreo pieces with Grenade’s tried-and-tested protein bar base. Appearance wise, it looks the same as the rest of the range, but with a nice looking dark chocolate coating, and there’s a strong smell of mint (duh) when you open it.
