Hydroculture plants - These require a hydro kit for assembly, this includes a waterproof pot liner with a base wide enough to accommodate the hydroculture grow pot. The size tip provided for each hydroculture plant provides a recommended size for the external diameter of the decorative pots that will accommodate the specified waterproof liner. Important: The opening measurement of the decorative pot is the size of the access hole for inserting the plant's grow pot as well as an indication of the minimum liner size needed. It is not the same as the external diameter of the pot which is the overall outer size of the pot. Please note all measurements are approximate and can vary slightly due to the handmade nature of our pots. In winter, when plants are indoors, allow the surface of the compost to partially dry out before watering, then water thoroughly with tepid rainwater, allowing the excess to drain away. Overwatering in winter is one of the commonest problems, so err on the dry side. And never leave pots standing in water, as this can cause the roots to rot. Yellowing of the leaves or shedding leaves can be signs of overwatering. Citrus plants require a very similar watering regime as any other houseplant. In the winter, allow the soil to dry out between watering, as they do not like overwatering. However, in the summer, they need to be watered more regularly, possibly once or twice a week. Use a indoor watering can to water your orange tree that has a long stem spout for targeted watering.

Hydroculture plants are measured the same way as soil plants, however the grow pots are sized by diameter plus their standardised heights, which allows a water meter to be fitted. For example: an 18/19 grow pot has an 18cm diameter at the rim and is 19cm tall. If your orange tree needs repotting into a larger pot or container, this is best done in the spring time before they start active growth but they can be potted on any time during the summer. Citrus plants aren’t generally hardy in the UK, even though some may be marketed as suitable to grow outdoors in a warm location. A few can tolerate temperatures down to 5°C/41°F (such as some lemons), but others need at least 13°C/55°F (such as calamondins).
