I have never been the biggest fan of heat protectant or styling sprays, as both tend to leave a gritty texture in my hair or make it look even more dry than it is. The Olaplex Volumising Blow Dry Mist has completely changed my perception. Giving me expensive looking hair with nothing more than a few spritzes and a rough dry, it couldn't be easier. There are also a few new Olaplex launches outside of the treatment realm that have been met with fanfare, including the new volumising mist and lash serum. Consider your personal hair history, too – if you’ve used chemical dye for years, it’ll unsurprisingly take longer to repair the damage. The verdict: Is Olaplex really worth the money? The Olaplex treatments are based around a patented active ingredient that seeks out and repairs the broken bonds in your hair fibres.

The first thing I noticed after spraying is that the mist gave my damp hair a slightly matte feeling. My strands lost some of their slippery texture that was left over from conditioning and it was obvious to the touch that I had product in my hair. However, it did not feel at all heavy on my head, so I hoped that after it had settled in and dried that the matte texture would disappear. This also contains bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, but in a smaller quantity and in combination with a variety of conditioning agents. It is also applied in the salon and used as your post-colouring conditioner treatment. Ultimately, the first four Olaplex products are your SOS steps for bleached or heavily heat-styled hair. But its offerings don’t end here – there are other products in the range that can be used to boost the efficiency of the salon treatments. Like many areas of life – say, marathon training or learning to surf – you aren’t going to see results instantly, and the same rule applies to your hair. Ultimately, the outcome will depend on how strictly you follow your Olaplex routine.When I see the word “volumizing” on any hair product, I usually run screaming. OK, that’s an exaggeration but when you have wavy, frizzy hair that grows larger throughout the day like I do, you’re not really looking for more volume. But I listened when hairstylist Teddy Charles told me that Olaplex’s new Volumizing Blow Dry Mist would be my new favorite for a bouncy blowout with actually less frizz. Unsurprisingly, he was right. They contain more concentrated levels of the active ingredient which are only used in professional settings where colouring chemicals are being handled too,’ explains Tom.

After fully drying my hair, the results really impressed me. Not only did my hair appear significantly more volumised than it would usually be, but it also had a gorgeous shine that I am not used to seeing, indicating the health of my hair even after using my drier on its hottest setting. If you've been debating air drying vs blow drying because you don't want to damage your hair with heat, this product will eradicate that fear. As someone with fine, low-porosity hair, I always struggle to find a volumising product that works for me. It's not often they deliver the same result as shown on the model, or they’ll leave a residue that feels a little crispy once dried. Cleverly, it seeks out the broken bonds that may have been missed in step one and gets busy repairing them. See No.2 as a more concentrated version of No.3 (more on that to come), but not quite as punchy as No.1. Olaplex No.0 Intensive Bond Building TreatmentWhile I did initially think its name suggested more of a root-lifting volumizing spray, the product is more of an all-rounder that smooths, holds, and adds a little volume and body. It’s not particularly moisturizing, so bear in mind that you’ll need to get this from other steps in your haircare and styling routine if your hair has a level of dryness. I'm looking forward to continuing to experiment with it in my routine. Yet despite its worldwide recognition, the same questions still circle the internet: is Olaplex actually good for hair, and how should you use it? That said, I noticed an instant improvement in the softness of my formerly straw-like hair after using the No.3 mask; I’d often catch myself twiddling my silky ends during the day, particularly after leaving it to marinate overnight.
