About this deal

The Botanical gardens are also a bit of a hidden gem and a lovely oasis of calm. In contrast head to the town for some lovely independent, family run businesses and a great selection of cafes, restaurants and bars for fuel stops and special meals out.

It’s a lovely townhouse which has all the charm and cuteness you’d expect from its location. I loved the soft shades of the sea that are used throughout the accommodation, but particularly in the kitchen. With the light green wall, natural wood counter, and white shelving it nods to its seaside location without going full steam with shells and anchors. Although I love a bit of that anyway, I’m not gonna lie! All in all, this cottage is lovely! Kingsbarns Accommodation: Kingsbarns Village Green, Daisybank Kingsbarns, Things to do in Kingsbarns Alternatively, if you’re travelling by public transport, there are some really great bus options (though not the train). This museum is a restored Cold War nuclear bunker which is secreted away under a farmhouse. Visitors can explore numerous rooms complete with weaponry, a BBC studio, 2 cinemas, and a café. Let’s start with what is probably the most well-known of the East Neuk fishing villages. The first thing I noticed when we arrived in Anstruther was the buzz. It was a gorgeous day and there were people everywhere; perched on benches at the harbour, wandering along the cute shops on the main high street, and sprawled on the golden sands of the beach. After driving through so many sleepy villages on the way this was a welcome relief! The East Neuk of Fife may be a small area consisting of picturesque fishing villages but it is home to some big hitters when it comes to award-winning food.

At one point in history, the harbour at Cellardyke was the busiest fishing port in Scotland. In 1898 a storm ruined Cellardyke harbour, which forced fleets to move to the more protected harbour at Anstruther. Isle of May Boat Trips: A great way to see the Isle of May and its flora and fauna is by taking a boat trip with osprey, a big ten metre Humber Rib which can hold up to 12 passengers. Osprey can take you on a 2-3 hour trip around the island or a shorter voyage around the island to see the puffins, seals, sea cliffs and coastal views from the boat. Find out More In the summer, tourists can enjoy a boat trip from the harbour to the Isle of May. The Isle of May is a National Nature Reserve in the Firth of Forth. Of Baern, Gaby writes: "The Baern menu focuses on bakes, which showcase Scotland the Bread’s Flour and veggies from East Neuk Market Garden, and are created by Hazel Powell and her business partner, Giacomo Pesce. You can get a direct bus to Anstruther from Edinburgh, which is great news! However, it’s also worth noting that if you don’t catch the direct bus you may have to change buses twice – which, if you’re anything like me, you probably don’t want to do. The direct bus takes two hours 25 minutes and it’s the X60 bus headed towards St Andrews. By carI didn’t get a chance to grab a bite to eat the last time I was in St Monans. However, there is a lovely restaurant right on the shore that caught my eye when we were there, which is called the East Pier Smokehouse. As you can imagine seafood is pretty high on the radar with crab cakes, Cullen skink, lobster and prawn tempura on the menu. Yum! Did you know? If Lower Largo were in Cornwall there would be traffic jams everyday winding their ways through the tiny streets. Thankfully, Lower Largo is one of Scotland’s hidden gems. Probably the least well known of the East Neuk villages, it is synonymous with Robinson Crusoe, being the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk in 1676 who went on to provide the inspiration for the Daniel Defoe character. There is a statue of the famous castaway in the village. Lower Largo once had a thriving railway and the Railway Inn serves real ale. Head to the beach at ELIE & EARLSFERRY Between the villages there are insanely beautiful clifftop views and pristine wild beaches. Whilst in the villages are incredible places to stay and eat. Plus the walk itself offers easily accessible and straightforward sections. Alternatively, I’ve included the best sections from each village in my Fife posts.

With two of Scotland's Michelin Star restaurants - The Peat Inn and The Cellar - there's also a range of independent cafes, restaurants, fish and chip shops and delis. The coast has a rich heritage, steeped in tales of fishing traditions, bustling Royal Burghs, and even witch trials. If you’re looking for seaside adventures, there are stunning beaches, tidal swimming pools, water sports and a long distance walking trail on the coast. Amazing food is never far from reach around these parts with quality, local produce found in abundance in the farm shops, eateries and markets. The East Neuk most definitely lives up to its reputation as a foodie destination. The courses regularly co-host golfing championships including the annual Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with St Andrews and Carnoustie. Also, Kingsbarns Golf Links are listed in the World’s Top 100 Golf Courses. Cambo Sands Kellie Castle and Garden: This stunning 14th-century castle is filled with antique furniture, paintings, and intricate plaster ceilings. The surrounding gardens are equally beautiful, boasting a variety of plants and a scenic pond. Elie Ness Lighthouse Standing at the tip of Elie Ness, Elie Ness Lighthouse has been guiding vessels through the treacherous waters around the Forth of Firth for almost 120 years and is now a very popular subject for photographers. Built in response to pleas from mariners who were unable to see the warning flashes from the lighthouses on the Isle of May and Inchkeith during stormy weather, a beam of white light has been shining from the top of Elie Ness Lighthouse every six seconds since 1908. Along the way, walkers will find working lighthouses, ruined castles, lots of fishing harbours, spectacular sea views, and endless numbers of seabirds (especially between Anstruther and Crail near the Isle of May). The seaside villages of the East Neuk of Fife must be some of Scotland’s prettiest and Elie & Earlsferry, is a quintessential Scottish seaside village and is a popular holiday destination for Scots; how about renting an idyllic cottage with that sea view?
