A tenth-anniversary edition of The Holy Bible was released on 6 December 2004, which included a digitally remastered version of the original album, a rare U.S. mix (which the band themselves have admitted to preferring to the original UK mix) [33] and a DVD of live performances and extras including a band interview. Manic Street Preachers released their debut album, Generation Terrorists, in February 1992, followed by Gold Against The Soul in 1993 and The Holy Bible in 1994. Kravitz, Kayley (30 January 2015). "Archiving Pain: Richey Edwards disappeared 20 years ago, but his genius with the Manics lives on". Vanyaland . Retrieved 19 October 2019. Music, literature and films were all part of their great escape. They swapped books, obsessed over movies, were blown away by the 10th anniversary of punk celebrations on TV and in the music press, and found perhaps unlikely role models in Guns N' Roses and Public Enemy. But the magic of the Manics' early years is that all these faults are invariably cited as virtues: Generation Terrorists is the key document of the days when the band were a gang of faintly preposterous young provocateurs embarked upon on an extravagant crusade to tell society exactly what was wrong with it. Twenty years later, it feels like a memento from a more innocent time, before the darkness came. Though the production denies Sean Moore’s drumming any personality, it is a very guitar heavy album and sounds good in that regards. However, most of the album is bubble-gum metal with edgelord lyrics and at 19 songs becomes redundant after a point. The album’s at its strongest when it deviates from the formula; highlights include the epic, wonderfully self-indulgent sadness and gorgeous guitars of Motorcycle Emptiness, the sparkling feminist lament of Little Baby Nothing, the powerful hip-hop mash-up of Repeat, and the beautifully tired and depressive Spectators Of Suicide.
