About this deal

It's especially galling for a number of reasons. Frank did all but spell out in Chapterhouse:Dune, and especially the final chapter, that Daniel and Marty were Independent Face Dancers. Also, in his books, the Butlerian Jihad (which was the topic of many of the prequels) was always described and discussed as a crusade against thinking machines, such that humanity was becoming too dependent on computers and automations and was losing their inherent creativity, talents, and abilities. KJA and BH turned this into a cheesy Terminator-esque fight between humans and robots who wanted to kill them for no reason other than, again, "just because." Apparently, reading beyond a 4th grade comprehension level is beyond these guys. They couldn't read between the lines in the original 6 Dune books, so they had to dumb it down so that they (and presumably and insultingly, we) could understand it. Stupid.

However, this book isn't that much of a stinker if you're focused heavily on getting to the idea reveals and you like good characters and love to see old classic characters interact in fantastic new ways. :) Feb 9, 2020; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Florence Pugh arrives at the 92nd Academy Awards at Dolby Theatre. Mandatory Credit: Dan MacMedan-USA TODAY Dune Messiah Power in the galaxy is a three-way balancing act between the Spacing Guild, who hold a monopoly on faster than light travel; the Padishah Emperor, who controls a fanatical army of Space Spartans (think 300, not Halo); and a system of alliances between hereditary noble Houses.I tried getting through the House trilogy about 15 years ago and lost interest even though there’s a lot of interesting world building there. Though he lived in the body of a thirteen-year-old, it was his job to remain ready for everything, and never lower his guard. The real problem is revealed in the selection of narrators. A number of narrators are deployed once or twice, and then die, seemingly for no purpose. The Ithaca ends up with eight perspectives, all major persons in the setting, but virtually no intrigue. It is merely cumulation of narrators for its own sake, or perhaps also for the sake of "Cool! Bashar Teg!!!" Sure, there's factional debates among the passengers, but it's undeveloped. I have to commend Brian and Kevin though. Hunters exceeded my expectations. They said it themselves that they wish Frank could have been the one to conclude the series, and that all they could do was try their best based off of Frank’s notes. In an interview at the end of the audiobook they said Frank could say more with a sentence than most could with a chapter, and that really diffused some of my hesitations with the differences between writing styles. At the end of Chapterhouse: Dune-- Frank Herbert's final novel--a ship carrying the ghola of Duncan Idaho, Sheeana (a young woman who can control sandworms), and a crew of various refugees escapes into the uncharted galaxy, fleeing from the monstrous Honored Matres, dark counterparts to the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. The nearly invincible Honored Matres have swarmed into the known universe, driven from their home by a terrifying, mysterious Enemy. As designed by the creative genius of Frank Herbert, the primary story of Hunters and Sandworms is the exotic odyssey of Duncan's no-ship as it is forced to elude the diabolical traps set by the ferocious, unknown Enemy. To strengthen their forces, the fugitives have used genetic technology from Scytale, the last Tleilaxu Master, to revive key figures from Dune's past--including Paul Muad'Dib and his beloved Chani, Lady Jessica, Stilgar, Thufir Hawat, and even Dr. Wellington Yueh. Each of these characters will use their special talents to meet the challenges thrown at them.

The desperate Spacing Guild goes to Ix seeking an alternative means of space travel. Khrone and his Face Dancers have secretly infiltrated Ix, plotting to dominate the universe. Working with Daniel and Marty, Khrone offers their advanced navigation technology to the Guild as if it were of Ixian design. The Guild agrees to the development of this technology if they have a monopoly on it.

Hunters of Dune

Hunters of Dune and the concluding volume, Sandworms of Dune, bring together the great story lines and beloved characters in Frank Herbert's classic Dune universe, ranging from the time of the Butlerian Jihad to the original Dune series and beyond. Based directly on Frank Herbert's final outline, which lay hidden in a safe-deposit box for a decade, these two volumes will finally answer the urgent questions Dune fans have been debating for two decades. The spice began to work within her. Closing her eyes, she dove inward, following the taste of melange. She could see the sweeping landscape of Bene Gesserit memories extending to an infinite horizon of human history. She seemed to be running down a kaleidoscopic corridor of mirrors, mother to mother to mother. Fear threatened to overwhelm her, but the Sisters within parted and drew her into their midst, absorbing her consciousness. After hundreds of lifetimes and having made love to tens of thousands of women, I think it’s fair to say that I am after all a Bene Gesserit stud” And, deep in the hold of their giant ship, the refugees carry the last surviving sandworms from devastated Arrakis, as they search the universe for a new Dune. As I understand it, the final book in the Dune series written by Frank Herbert ends in a cliffhanger. Years later, Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson allegedly found some sort of manuscript hidden away by Frank Herbert and based off of information found in the manuscript they wrote two more books to finish off the original series: "Hunters of Dune" and "Sandworms of Dune".
