About this deal

Urquhart murders Mattie Storin, throwing her off the roof after she confronts Urquhart about his actions. Author Michael Dobbs was Margaret Thatcher's Chief of Staff and had the idea for this book after a meeting when she completely lost her temper and blamed him when she felt her election campaign was going wrong in 1987 (she was re-elected). It is Dobbs internal knowledge of Westminster and the world of politics, which makes this so compelling. Francis Urquhart is Chief Whip when we meet him, but has designs on greater things. Having been promised that if Henry Collingridge is elected as PM he will be promoted, he finds that his ambitions are thwarted. Rather than becoming a Cabinet Minister, he is told that the reduced majority means that Urquhart is required to remain in the shadows. The enforcer, indispensable, but, still, unrecognised. Empecé a leer este libro, como seguro muchos otros, por la serie de Netflix. Increíble; increíble también la interpretación de Kevin Spacey, e increíbles también los IWC que con tanta elegancia porta el tío. Y hasta aquí las menciones a la serie. Ian Richardson won the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor in 1991 for his role as Urquhart, and Andrew Davies won an Emmy for outstanding writing in a miniseries. the best of modern political fiction . The reader can't help but be riveted by the lead character, even hoping for his sinister plots to succeed."

He graduated in 1975 with an M.A., M.A.L.D., and PhD in nuclear defence studies. His doctoral thesis was published as SALT on the Dragon's Tail. In 2007 he returned to Tufts where he gave the Alumni Salutation. In one hand we have Margaret, she is the second of three brothers, and both brothers are uninterested and incapable of taking the position of chairmen. She believes it's her responsibility to preserve the company his great-grandfather, grandfather and father sacrificed a lot to keep on the top. The situation does not get better when her mother is forcing her to marry someone she doesn’t love and she feels traped in more than one sense. She has a secret. She is in love with someone else and she is willing to let that love go, because she firmly believes it's her duty. The situation takes a turn and she will learn that not everything is what it seems. Itzkoff, Dave (4 October 2012). "Netflix Sets February Premiere for 'House of Cards' ". The New York Times . Retrieved 13 November 2012. Urquhart is sinister, cynical and thoroughly ruthless, villanous and unprincipled in a way we increasingly tend to see politicians these days. As chief whip he also has all the instruments at his disposal to achieve his ultimate goal. Mattie, on the other hand is much more youthfull, in some ways still lightly naive (but in other surprisingly not) and is also one real obstacle to Urquhart's success. Netflix To Enter Original Programming With Mega Deal For David Fincher-Kevin Spacey Series House of Cards". deadline.com. 15 March 2011.It was rather symbolic,” Dobbs reflects. “Airey was murdered almost at the start, it was the 1979 election, as the election campaign was starting – Ian was murdered pretty much right at the end . . . a b "Is he fibbing? This blood and thunder tale, lifelike and thoroughly cynical, certainly carries the ring of authenticity.... a great triumph ." -- The Independent Full Book Name: The House of Cards Complete Trilogy: House of Cards, To Play the King, The Final Cut Dobbs’ theory is that brilliant politicians derive their ambition from private demons – and he himself doesn’t “have that sort of drive”.

I had been right in the path of that bomb for much of that previous day, working in [then President of the Board of Trade] Norman Tebbit’s room,” he recalls. (Tebbit’s wife Margaret was left permanently disabled by the bomb). Mattie Storin does not have a relationship with Urquhart; she does not even talk to him frequently. She does, however, have a sexual relationship with John Krajewski. Michael Dobbs' writing career began in 1989 with the publication of House of Cards, the first in what would become a trilogy of political thrillers with Francis Urquhart as the central character; House of Cards was followed by To Play the King in 1992 and The Final Cut in 1994. In 1990 House of Cards was turned into a television mini-series which received 14 BAFTA nominations and two BAFTA wins and was voted the 84th Best British Show in History. [14] Netflix produced a US version based upon Dobbs's first novel and its BBC adaptation. He was an executive producer of the American series. [15]
