About this deal

It's not a huge surprise - there's so much to make Horrid Henryappealing, and these are often the first books children actually enjoy reading to themselves. What makes them so great? This book is basically about this kid Henry who does bad things, his brother (perfect peter) who is “perfect” and a few more characters. Meanwhile, @richardbrenton came with not one, but tworecommendations for us! He suggested David O'Doherty's Danger Is Everywhereis a 'good progression' from Horrid Henry and called John Dougherty's Stinkbomb and Ketchup Faceseries a 'delight'. Of course, older Horrid Henry fans must not miss Francesca Simon's books for older readers. She's written three in her Mortal Gods series: The Sleeping Armyand The Lost Gods, a brilliant collision of Norse myth and contemporary celebrity culture for 8-12s.Plus, set in the same world but aimed at slightly older readers is The Monstrous Child. For those that want recommendations from Francesca Simon herself Ramona Quimby, by Beverly Cleary (about a girl who gets into troubles because of various reasons- also like Horrid Henry in many ways) Ramona is quite popular with girls in the States (where I'm from); she may be little advanced for the 5 year old, but they're used as early readers/sight readers for kids so they could be a good book to grow into.

All this is juxtaposed with Perfect Peter, the 'White-Hat' of our story. he cares for his surroundings, he does not squander his home's supply of vegetables and is rewarded by their mother with cake, But no. He does not want recognition for his actions, Peter does not desire cake. He merely wants to do good.

There seems to be a popular fan theory that Henry has ADHD, dyslexia or is on the autism spectrum, although this is completely unconfirmed. The vast majority of the time, Mum and Dad believe Peter rather than Henry, being best known for disciplining Henry, particularly with the phrase: 'Don't be horrid, Henry!'. They often force Henry to locations such as his room if he is not well behaved, or they utterly say, 'GO TO YOUR ROOM NOW, HENRY!'. His parents often punish him for the slightest things. This is an outrageously funny series featuring the most quirky, eccentric characters that are bound to delight children who love gloriously silly details and horrible baddies,' she said. 'Hilariously illustrated, they really are marvellous, madcap adventures.' Your suggestions I remember liking this book as a kid, so I thought I’d read it again (this time in English) and ahh it was so nostalgic. Horrid Henry is a mischievous troublemaker who has a few anger management issues and is a little bit over-exhilarant, with features of arrogance too. He is a bad-tempered, hot headed kid with a smart mouth. He's also extremely skeptical of authority, or just anything that kids stereotypically hate, such as school, but he's also a trendy kid who's always in on the latest trends. Due to his mischievous behaviour, he's disliked by most of his teachers. Henry is known to be horrid, but by Series 2, he had become nicer, and by series 3, he has become quite popular.

Later that same day, Henry is helping at the homestead with his mother, setting the table and altogether taking the jobs of his younger brother. Peter cries out at his loss of purpose within his home, but it falls on deaf ears. Peter is threatened now, his place at his mother's side is no longer safe at the hands of what he believes to be a deceiver. So he goads him.

Elsewhere, children's librarian Jo Clarke aka Bookloverjo shared her recommendation for children who love Horrid Henry's anarchic humour and chaotic storylines - Spangles Mc Nastyby Steve Webb and Chris Mould. Horrid Henry is the worst -- he's always in trouble, and he seems even more badly behaved than he actually is in comparison with his brother, Perfect Peter. In the four short stories collected here, the mischievous Henry causes Peter all sorts of problems when he behaves properly for a change, upstages Peter at a dance recital, pretends to be a pirate, and goes on a camping trip" (NoveList: Ellen Foreman).
