About this deal

Testing conducted by Apple in November and December 2022 using preproduction Macmini systems with AppleM2Pro, 12-core CPU, 19-core GPU, 32GB of RAM, and 8TB SSD, preproduction Macmini systems with AppleM2, 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 24GB of RAM, and 2TB SSD, production Macmini systems with AppleM1, 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 16GB of RAM, and 2TB SSD, and production 3.8GHz 8-core Intel Core i7-based iMac systems with AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8GB of GDDR6, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD, as well as production 3.2GHz 6-core Intel Core i7-based Macmini systems with Intel Iris UHD Graphics 630, 64GB of RAM, and 2TB SSD. Tested with Pixelmator Pro 3.1.1 using a 216KB image. Performance tests are conducted using specific computer systems and reflect the approximate performance of Macmini andiMac.

Before we get to accessories for the Mac Mini M2 though, here are some other articles that may interest you –Compared to the M1, the base M2 chip is only slightly faster. In multi-core tests, it’s around 12% faster, while in single-core operations, it’s only 10% faster. This echoes the performance we saw with the MacBook Air M2, showing only minor improvements over the M1 model.

Another reason to get the Logitech keyboard + mouse combo is the multi-device flow support. As such, if you also happen to have a Windows PC, then you can switch between your Mac and the PC seamlessly. Similar to the MacBook Air M2, Apple went cheap on the SSD for the 256GB model. It uses a single NAND chip for storage, resulting in up to 50% slower SSD performance. The MacBook Pro M2 Pro has this same issue, which is a big reason why reviewers are saying to avoid the 256GB model. Brandon Geekabit/YouTubeIn our real world tests, the Mac mini did very well, and our benchmark tests also showed just how good this little PC is. In the multi-core Cinebench R23 test, the M1 chip scored an excellent 7,755 points. This put it above the powerful 12-core Intel Xeon X5650, and offers a seriously impressive level of performance. The fact that you can run older Mac apps on the Mac mini (M1, 2020) is commendable, and with the M1 chip allowing iOS apps to be installed as well, it means the Mac mini continues to be a very versatile little PC. On both, you can drive two displays — up to 6K at 60Hz through a Thunderbolt connection and up to 4K at 60Hz through HDMI. However, you can swap the HDMI connection for a second Thunderbolt display on the M2 Mac Mini, which supports up to a 5K screen like Apple’s Studio Display. It’s a small change, but it’s vital for multi-monitor setups. Apple The exciting update is the M2 Pro processor. Unlike the previous generation, Apple is offering the new Mac mini with an M2 Pro processor, which is also available in the new MacBook Pro. It comes with more cores, allowing the M2 Pro to run much more demanding applications. He got his start in the industry covering Windows Phone on a small blog, and later moved to Phandroid where he covered Android news, reviewed devices, wrote tutorials, created YouTube videos, and hosted a podcast.

Previously, we mentioned creating a portable rig with a monitor using a VESA mount. However, if you want something more compact, then this case for the Mac Mini M2 should be on your radar. The unique aspect of this case is that it has an iPad holder. So, you can slot your iPad into it and connect your Mac Mini to the device and use the contraption as a mini laptop setup – how cool is that! Results are compared to previous-generation 3.8GHz 8-core Intel Core i7-based 27-inch iMac systems with AMD Radeon Pro 5500 XT with 8GB of GDDR6, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD. We recommend getting the 1TB variant since it’s ample storage for most users. The read speeds can go all the way up to 1050MB/s thanks to the USB 3.2 Gen2 connectivity. You get a metal casing which makes the SSD durable too, which is a huge plus.If you were worried that the move from Intel hardware to its own silicon would be a blow to the Mac mini's performance, you needn't have worried. The Apple Mac mini (M1, 2020) performs incredibly well, with macOS Big Sur running smoothly. We tested a few native and legacy apps (Apple’s Rosetta 2 tool allows you to continue to run older apps without any major issues), and they ran well – you wouldn't notice that some of them are not running natively.
