About this deal

Ice Hammer: None of these vehicles are awful, so this particular list goes from “good” to “great.” I’d gladly take an Ice Hammer vehicle any day without hesitation, but would prefer the other 13 just a bit more. Along with offering characters that were new to the Batman: The Animated Series world, DC Direct wanted to give fans of the series who had missed out on some of the earlier figures a new chance to add them to their collection. Along with the new characters, the Batman: The Adventures Continue line will also include some older and harder-to-find figures, like the Joker, Robin and Catwoman, with all new cel-shaded paint decos. The Catwoman figure will also come with a brand-new head sculpt of her without her cowl.

What happened after the show ended…?” wonders Fletcher. “All of these characters had been created, like Deathstroke, Red Hood and, most recently, the Batman Who Laughs. So we said, ‘This could be a cool way to continue the line and really create something fans would want to own.’” Infrared Batman: Love the look of the suit itself, as the deep red as kind of an update of the Batman: The Movie poster (which I think I’ve said about another figure in another line). The accessory is just kind of whatever, not moving the needle one way or the other. Collect all additional DC Animated Figures; Superman and Green Lantern as well as other McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse figures . Figures sold separately. Clayface: Ol’ Matt Hagen here is big, lumpy, and kind of gross, as he should be. Excellent sculpt, and the firing mace hand is just flat-out awesome. While as a kid we would understandably gravitate more toward the hero figures, I think as adults we can appreciate a truly well-made villain all the more. Especially when it’s as cool as Clayface here. Seven chapters of the Batman: The Adventures Continue miniseries have already been released digitally and a print edition will soon follow. With the first wave of action figures now in stores as well, there has never been a more rich and exciting time to be a Batman: The Animated Series fan. At least, not since the series left the airwaves. The first Batman Beyond action figure line made a similar mistake to The Batman Animated series toy lines. Their figures showcased many different versions of Batman Beyond, but didn’t include many of the other characters from the series. The first set included designs like Manta Racer Batman, Lightning Storm Batman, Thunderwhip Batman, and Hydro Force Batman. Anti-Freeze Batman: One of those figures I always think of when I think of this line, as I remember seeing it all the time in stores. Never owned it, but I’m nonetheless very familiar with it. The fact that it kind of looks like what the concept is selling helps, with white evoking “freeze” and the red piping potentially being used for generating heat. Aero Bat: The nice, compact design is fun, and the fact that the windshield has eyes painted on it so the whole vehicle looks like a giant Batman face is just beautiful. The Jokermobile: The only thing I dislike about this is that it never appeared in the series, because this is 100% something Joker would have driven around in. And the launching smile missile is simply perfect. The chance to return to that world, with two creative partners who were also involved in shaping it, has been a real thrill for Dini. “Ty Templeton was able to capture all the depth we were trying to go for with the characters and even then some,” Dini shares. “He brought such incredible emotion to the characters and complexity with the stories. To work with him again is a dream come true.”

Bruce Wayne: Imagining Bruce Wayne donning his Batman costume only for it to be this super bulky outfit makes me laugh. The fact that the boots and leggings are the same color, so it looks like he’s wearing jammies, makes it all the funnier.I get to work with Paul again and Alan for the first time” he reveals. “You couldn't ask for better scripts to inspire this happy bat-artist.” DC Direct first arrived at the idea of creating new action figures in the style and spirit of the classic Batman: The Animated Series after seeing the continued demand for their bestselling action figures based on the series. When I saw Ty’s first models , they were very much like the original models on the series that Bruce Timm did,” he shares. “Bruce would always draw his models in action poses, and he would draw a character in motion first before he did the stiff turnaround. That is what Ty did for the new characters, such as Red Hood.” The Riddler: Not a bad Nygma at all. Kind of wish the question mark bazooka had more color, but being able to type “question mark bazooka” made my day, so it’s a wash.

Hasbro also released figures for the direct to video Batman Beyond movie, Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. The figures included in this set were Golden Armor Batman, Gotham Defender Batman, Gotham Knight Batman, Rapid Switch Bruce Wayne and Arkham Assault Joker. Batboat: That there isn’t a larger Batboat toy is weird, so having this included in miniature kind of makes up for that. Kind of.

Hoverbat: A little over-designed for a vehicle that should be relatively simple, I like this more because of the art on the box. Two-Face looks so mad to have been captured, while Batman has an expression of annoyance as if he missed his exit on the freeway. Amazing. All three current seasons available for streaming on Max, new season four episodes every Thursday on Max Batmobile: Sleek and classic, this is about as perfect an Animated Batmobile as you could hope for. I only like this design, without full on loving it, as there are other Batmobiles I prefer over this one. Still, it’s awesome and perfectly fits the aesthetic of the show. Battle Helmet Batman: Even though the blueish hue of the suit isn’t quite a match with the show, I think it looks stellar. Give him a better accessory and this might be the best Batman in the line, even if he’s a mailaway toy. After a mix of failed toy lines, Hasbro stepped into the picture and bought out Kenner. With that acquisition, they started their own series of Batman: The Animated Series action figures. Their first toy line for the franchise was called The New Batman Adventures. This line featured new sculpts based on the updated animated series from the WB network. It also included figures of Batman, Nightwing, and some Batman: The Animated Series villains. Notable in this run are the including of Mad Hatter and the Creeper!

We are following up on the original toy line that we launched,” explains DC Direct Creative Director, Jim Fletcher. “We went through almost fifty characters. We were looking for a way to get this line continued and we were trying to think of a way to do it by making enough figures of characters that people would actually want.” Bruce Wayne’s Car: If this were a Hot Wheel or something, I might like it more. As part of a line with much more interesting vehicles and characters, it’s just kind of bland. No name strikes terror into the hearts of Gotham’s citizens quite like the Joker. In a city overrun with larger-than-life criminals, the always-laughing villain stands alone. A complete psychopath with no moral compass whatsoever, the Joker, whose real name and identity remain completely unknown, is characterized by his chalk-white skin, green hair and a permanent rictus grin stretched across his face. But there isn’t a single thing funny about this particular clown, who only finds humor in the suffering of others. From that thought arose the idea of designing figures based on some of DC’s most beloved characters that had never appeared on the animated series or utilizing popular characters that had been created after the show had aired. Templeton was just as excited to be working on the comics as he was to be working on the action figures.

Of course, the action figures are only one part of this. For the past few months, fans have been getting all-new adventures set within the world of Batman: The Animated Series in the Batman: The Adventures Continue digital first series, written by Dini and Alan Burnett and drawn by none other than Templeton. This bi-weekly comic, set after the final season of Batman: The Animated Series, has been telling the stories Dini and Burnett might have written for characters like Red Hood, Deathstroke and Azrael had the animated series continued. Mr. Freeze: Great sculpt all around, and a water squirting accessory is inspired. Just wish he had a smaller, more screen-accurate freeze gun too. After the Mission Masters set Hasbro started making figures for the Batman: The Animated Series spin-off TV show, Batman Beyond. A Batman related show set in the future with even darker themes than it’s parent show. Batman Beyond starred a new Batman, Terry McGinnis, who was mentored by an aging Bruce Wayne.
