Freshly cut sawn ends should be thoroughly treated with either Barrettine Premier Wood Preserver, or alternatively Barrettine End Grain Preserver Use outdoors to preserve wooden fences, gates, sheds and for most external wood care tasks including window frames, external doors and door frames (internal & external sections). The Barrettine clear wood preserver can also be used on structural timbers in unoccupied areas such as floor joists. Barrettine’s Wood Protective Treatmentis a wood sealer for rough, sawn or smooth timber. It contains water-repellent resins that help reduce decay, swelling, and twisting of wood. Its pigments have good UV fade resistance and will help protect the wood from UV damage.

What is the difference between Barrettine Wood Preserver, Wood Protective Treatment and Universal Preserver? Brush down the wood with a stiff broom or brush to remove any ingrained surface dirt and biological growth Wood that has been oiled in the last year should be allowed to weather for at least one year or until the wood preservative is able to penetrate through to the timberNOTE: Before overcoating, allow the wood to fully ‘weather’ after applying the preserver. This is especially important for water based paints as the wax contained in the preserver will repel the water and prevent adherence of the paint. The ‘weathering’ process can take several months. It should be noted that the above products are preventative treatments and these products are unlikely to kill/control mould spores already present within the wood. If this is suspected, Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner should be used, prior to coating the wood. The bottom of wooden structures e.g. sheds will also require more frequent treatment with Mould and Mildew Cleaner, as the action of rain splashing on the ground will distribute mould spores onto the wood. Frequent treatment with Mould and Mildew Cleaner can prolong the life of the wood coating. Also, repeat and periodic re-treatments using the above wood care products will enhance and protect the appearance, and prolong the life of the wood. While Barrettine premier wood preserver is available in seven UV fade resistant colours, it can also be overcoated for aesthetic purposes or for added protection, with suitable paints and wood oils. The sprayer must be thoroughly cleaned after application with white spirit and then oiled to protect the tip and moving parts (as per manufacturer’s instructions). This product cannotbe sprayed with a traditional pump action garden sprayer.

Areas that have been affected by mould, algae or fungi should be treated with Barrettine Mould and Mildew Cleaner Suitable for rough, sawn or smooth timber, Barrettine Wood Preserver does not require over sealing for wood protection so can stand alone. It can also however, be used as a preservative base for overcoating with protective treatments, wood oils and oil based paints or varnishes, for aesthetic purposes (allow for weathering period).
