About this deal

In fact, it's really quite nice and better than some of the other fragrances I have tried, lately - but, because of the dominant notes (which are not really my favourites), probably not something I would bother buying.

I did not enjoy much. it is really about skin chemistry, so you must test it before buying; on the good side, it had a tremendous lasting power - on my skin-eating perfume - so dab a tiny bit as it will last forever. Yes,there is a but here.a huge but...but drydown which doesn't force me wait for a long time,is something I happen to love now!it smells heavenly and I find it one of the most artistically done patchouli scents I have ever had pleasure of smelling If only Tom Ford White Patchouli upheld the promise of its opening accord, I would have been ready to give it 5 stars. It opens up on such a sultry accord of spices and amber with patchouli’s chocolate bitterness perceptible underneath; it is difficult not to fall under its spell. Yet, after an opulent prelude, the composition veers into the barren territory of sharp woods and pale musks. Perhaps this suggests that I prefer my patchouli in the darker registers, full of its earthy, pungent facets. I was registered with Parfumo. It was so interesting here that I scrolled from fragrance to fragrance, let myself in, lost sight of White Patchouli and first wrote about my existing fragrances comments. After a short moment the Patchouli changes on my skin. It's still earthy and aromatic, it's not the sterilized sparkling patch you find in most mainstream fruitchoulis. But it's very smooth and polished, like sleek dark woods.

The drydown is the BEST part of this frag. I love to smell it on my clothes the day after, or on my skin the next morning... there it reveals what this fragrance should all be about: a soft, clean patchouli helped out by a white lingering musk; this is really beautiful. My big 100ml bottle was decanted several times, so that I could finish it up.

White Patchouli is without a doubt one of the best Patchouli fragrances that I have encountered on the market. It smells Rich, Bold, Sexy and quite unisex to my nose. Some people say it smells very feminine, but I think that its bold enough to be worn by both Men and Women. None of the flowers try to show up as patchouli doesn't insist on making this all about itself, they're all in a perfect harmony I was born in the heat of the summer. It’s my most cherished season despite the fact that Palm Beach is pretty much warm all the time. I give most of my thought to summer fragrance because there are so many warm days and I get bored if I don’t redefine the status quo now and then. Air conditioning may be the cornerstone of modern civilization, but I still want to be set free of heavy aromas when the sun is closer to my side of the Equator. I am one of those tan people who still like to be in the sun, even when it’s fierce, and even though sun worship has pretty much given way to either alabaster skin or spray tanning. I just don’t do fake anything if I can help it. I also prefer some of the old school ideas about summer and wear an awful lot of white linen with sandals and fanciful loose clothing that might catch the slightest breeze, etc. Then add the fact that I swoon over Coromandel (=very prominent, sharp patchouli) and then, somebody reviewed it as clean, sexy, very Prada like - a once upon a time staple in my collection (Prada Amber: patchouli & amber based). Just as one expects to receive more opulence and seduction, things grind to a halt. Patchouli begins to pale and wither away, leaving behind a strong and brash woody note laced with musks and sharp amber. Even more disconcertingly, something in the drydown makes me think of the musky sweetness associated with fabric softeners. The switch is so jarring and disappointing that it took me several trials to finally come to terms with the fact that White Patchouli and I are not meant to be together. As is the case with fragrances one does not like, White Patchouli lasts forever on my skin. At any rate, to experience a fantasy that it promises but did not deliver, I reach for Agent Provocateur or Frédéric Malle Portrait of a Lady.Star rating: 5 stars–outstanding/potential classic, 4 stars–very good, 3 stars–adequate, 2 stars–disappointing, 1 star–poor. This is not the case of Tom Ford´s White Patchouli, a house whose export line redeems the, sometimes dissapointing, always aspirational, Private Blend line. White Patchouli, from the export line, has an outstanding lasting power and is a different approach to this classic material.

Thinking what could smell alike this strange but well thought start, i can say it reminds me to the rare beauty of Aromatics Elixir, being all over White Patchouli cleaner, lighter and less complex with a very different performance as we will see.But yeah, i would go as far as saying this is more centered around the rose, with incense and patchouli playing supporting roles. This is completely sugarless,so gourmand lovers just keep that in mind. But that opening; its a bit of a slap isn't it? I kind of like the weird mix of spicy and fresh. that is, or may reasonably be considered to be submitted in extreme volumes and as such be deemed as ‘spam’; The patchouli in White Patchouli is kept rather sleek, proper and clean, but it has a ruling position as the name implies. There is a medicinal quality in the opening of this fragance that makes it very interesting, like it belongs to an old fashioned pharmacist or herbalist´s shop. It is also very floral, in this odd, aseptic way, and, I agree, kind of mushroomy. Peppery, bitter, dry zest, dry undergrowth, turpentine-like notes fuse together with luminous flowers (peony and a burning jasmine) on a bed of honeyed tobacco and a patchouli, that may be hard to recognise on this garments. White Patchouli is a rather cool scent without much sweetness, but it never turns sour, bitter or scratchy on me. Everything works together beautifully. It feels sensual and glamorous in a serious, grown-up way. Still too manly. I'm going to actually use this as a base for other scents. You know, something worn on the skin to GROUND the scent. (Perfumes never last on my skin, so using this on the skin will perfectly layer).
