About this deal

How to hang wallpaper on a feature wallIf you’re utilising a bold colour or printed wallpaper for a feature wall, remember all eyes will be on it the second someone steps into a room. You will need to pay extra attention to detail, particularly with corners and elements like fireplaces. So, when it comes to measurements, these will need to be correct to the millimetre – with any excess neatly trimmed away with your knife. Concertina your paper and when it is ready, prop the end of the wallpaper up with a broom handle or something similar.

Smooth down the paper and brush into the corner so it overlaps the wallpaper your carried round the bend.Want to make sure you hang your wallpaper straight? Use a plumb line (a weight on the end of a string) to get a perfectly straight vertical line. And if you need to draw a straight edge on most surfaces, snap a chalk line. Wallpaper scorer If you try to wrap the whole drop around a corner, you will typically find that its difficult to get rid of wrinkles, spoiling a neat-looking finish. And its unlikely that the other edge of the wallpaper will be straight, which it needs so you can continue wallpapering. What corner do you start wallpapering first? Step 3: Trim and hang your wallpaperOnce you’ve measured and marked your wallpaper (with the excess) on your wallpaper table, trim the first sheet and use it as a guide for the next piece. Then, paste your ready-to-use adhesive onto the first area you’ll be applying your first piece of wallpaper to, before aligning your paper completely to the guide mark you made on the wall – adjust slightly if necessary. Take your brush smoothing tool to go over the paper and set it, removing any bubbles along the way. If you cut in flush to a corner rather than overlapping there is a very good chance that when the wallpaper dries you will be left with a gap exposing the wall underneath. This is why overlapping is important, especially if using patterned wallpaper. After all the prep work, you can finally get started on the actual wallpapering! So take a deep breath and look forward to the end result! To make sure it all goes without a hitch, you have to measure the wall once more. We already did that to determine the amount of wallpaper rolls we need, but as the old saying goes: Better safe than sorry.

The soft bristles on this brush are designed to smooth wallpaper by squeezing out any air bubbles and excess paste. Wash the bristles in warm water when you've finished to keep it fresh and usable. Wallpaper steamerStep 7: Start hanging wallpaper on the next wall (optional)Once your first wall and corner is covered, repeat the process from step 2 again by starting 50cm from the edge of the wall. Hanging wallpaper on outer corners is similar to inner corners with a subtle difference. When you have less than a full width drop towards the corner you need to measure the distance but leave a bigger overlap — typically 40-50mm. (This is typically a technique used when wallpapering a chimney breast.) Step 2: Measure your wallGet the vertical height of your wall using a measuring tape and spirit level for accuracy, and measure this out on your wallpaper, but add an extra 5 to 10cm to allow for any trimming. If you’re wondering where to hang the first piece of wallpaper, avoid starting from a corner as this edge may not be completely straight. Instead, use the spirit level (to ensure it’s straight) and mark a vertical line 50cm from the wall edge.

Carefully unfold the first part of your concertina and place it into position with the edge of the paper on the guide line. Smooth the seams between lengths of wallpaper with this tiny roller - but make sure not to use it on embossed or fragile papers. Combination smoother/cutter As the beginning of the roll does not necessarily show the complete image of the basic pattern, you should manually hold it up on the wall. Our wallpaper girl chose the middle of the wall to determine the start of the pattern and then begins at the top. Higher than a kitchen table and just wider than a roll of wallpaper, this lightweight folding platform is perfect for measuring, cutting and pasting paper. W-leg tables are more stable than cheaper versions, but plastic ones are the sturdiest of all - as well as being the simplest to clean and store. Plumb line/chalk line If wallpapering your walls is more your style, our range of wallpaper pastes will be perfect to ensuring a smooth and strong adhesion every time. Our assortment of sanding and abrasive surfaces are helpful for this too, helping you to remove any lumps or bumps on the wall.

What is the use of a desktop wallpaper? Well, adding a wallpaper to your desktop is not mandatory. In fact, you can decide to use a dark colour, and life will move on as usual. However, this element comes with a sense of beauty. They add glamor to your computer and make it look aesthetically appealing and highly presentable. Sometimes, people display their feelings through the use of desktop wallpapers. Interesting, huh? You can add an image that shows how you feel or one that means something to you. Adding a quote will act as a reminder of what inspires you in your day-to-day life. That said, desktop wallpapers cannot be ignored, they mean different things to different people. You want to start in a corner that doesn’t have any obstacles, such as a window frame, door frame or light switches, in the way, if possible. This allows you to do a complete uninterrupted drop which will give you a nice straight edge to butt up against when you put up the next drop. Start about a third of a roll away from the corner. Do you overlap wallpaper in corners?

If you want to know roughly how many strips of wallpaper you can cut off a roll, just divide the length of the roll by the height of the wall (+ half a pattern repeat). The pattern repeat will be stated in the wallpaper label, e.g. 54 cm. Another solution is to wipe off any excess paste, dry with a clean dry cloth and use painter's tape to hold down the overlap until the paste is dry. This is time-consuming but effective if needed. Simple steps to make hanging wallpaper easyWhether you’ve done it multiple times or you’re wondering how to hang wallpaper for the first time, our comprehensive guide has everything you need to transform your walls. However, if you are hanging lining paper or a patterned wallpaper like Anaglypta that is going to be painted you can cut the paper flush into the corners if you want. If there are any small gaps left they will be hidden by paint. What can go wrong when wallpapering corners?Step 5: Hang the next strips of wallpaperRepeat step 3 again and keep going until you get to a corner. Once you’ve laid it down in its section and are happy with the alignment, use your soft seam roller to smooth between the two wallpaper strip lines for a flawless finish. If you have decided on wallpapering your ceiling as well, it’s best to start here before going on to the walls so you can achieve a more professional finish. With one side of a corner complete you need to to make sure that the next drop matches up and is straight as Clark explains: “Set up a plumb line on the adjoining wall and hang the offcut against this line, matching the pattern as best as possible, this should fit neatly into the corner with a slight overlap.” How to wallpaper outer corners Yes you do. Why? Inner and outer corners on internal walls are very rarely completely straight as Clark explains: “Walls and corners are rarely straight, so it's important when wallpapering any corner to ensure your drops remain vertical and parallel to the other drops.”
