The Unagi Model One Voyager electric scooter is a poetic masterclass of engineering design, but it isn’t without its faults. As such, you can rest assured that they’re high quality. They’re durable, reliable, and built to be long-lasting. As a result, you can enjoy the fact that the Model One should require very little (or even zero) maintenance. Whilst it's easy to sweep charge time under the rug when considering an electric scooter, it is an important factor that you should consider, especially since I’ve seen charge times up to 20 hours.Coming in at a cool 26 lbs (10.4 kg), the Model One is easily portable. But don’t let the fear of flimsiness put you off – the Model One doesn’t feel like it would break easily. This is largely because of its stem being made of carbon fiber, which not only helps reduce weight but also enables the stem to be narrow without forsaking durability. While the Model One electric scooter rides superbly on flat, smooth tarmac, when you’re on paving slabs or any surface that’s less than perfectly smooth, you can feel all the lumps and bumps through your hands and feet.

Unagi offers some of the best customer service and support in the world, and the E500 typically comes with a one-year warranty in most countries, which guarantees you repair at the manufacturer’s discretion. If the damage comes within the first three months, Unagi sends you a replacement scooter. The warranty, like most scooter companies, is extended to the first owner alone. It does not cover wear and tear, damage from misuse (off-road use and water damage). The Unagi is brilliantly built using high-end material for durability, portability, and reliability. The dual 250W motors can propel the scooter through all manner of terrain- though with a preference for urban terrain. The Sony customized lithium battery is reliable and efficient, with longer battery life and a decent mileage on a single charge. For anyone who wants to get up to faster speeds than most budget scooters but doesn’t want to look like you’re riding a chunky, clunky Erector Set scooter, then the Unagi Model One Voyager very well may be for you. As you might expect, the trade-off is that dual-motor mode drains the battery much faster. To achieve the best combination of speed, comfort and battery life I found that using the scooter in Intermediate and with only one motor activated was the best option. Switching to dual-motor mode is easily done when you notice a hill ahead but, otherwise, I found it best to preserve the battery’s already-limited range. With the throttle, brake, horn, and LED headlight, and command center integrated into the top bar, the elegance of the Unagi Model One is without question. No surprise, then, that more than thirty prototypes were required before the final handlebar design came together. FrameAnd while the Model One straight up Bartleby'd me on even modest hills in single-motor mode ("I'd prefer not to!"), dual-motor mode was able to get me up most of the steeper hills around my neighborhood. I did have to floor the throttle to get it to go about 7 mph up a 20 percent incline, and I'm guessing that anyone bigger than me (a 5' 2" female) would probably have trouble going uphill.
