About this deal

Speaking of the aperture, this lens has 10 aperture blades. They’re double curved, looking a little like the Summilux 50mm f/1.4 aperture blades. It makes for nice looking bokeh even stopped down, but around f/2.8-5.6 the out of focus areas will sometimes have a bit of uneven edges on the specular highlights. Lately there have been two rising stars on the Chinese lens manufacturing scene. One is 7artisans and the other is TTartisan. While their name is VERY similar, they”re NOT the same company as far as I’ve been told. They both get their optics done by DJ OPTICAL, but they each do their own lens designs. Comparing the Chinese 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 Leica M mount lens verses the trusty Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.4 VM lens. Written blog with full res images to accompany the YouTube video. Full details below. 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 Leica M mount lens

The gear I used for that review is a Leica M6 with Ilford HP5 for the film part, and a M10 for the digital part of the review. I will only cover the really obvious alternatives in detail here, but if you ended up here by accident and you are looking for a slower 50mm lens or even an AF lens may have a look at our Guide to 50mm lenses for Sony E-mount. At half body distance it seems to me the Zhong Yi lenses and this TTArtisan 50mm 0.95 perform very similar. As you can see the list of cons is pretty long, and for me there are too many of them in the image quality department to consider using this lens for my shooting. The images can be stunning at times, but this happens only with the right circumstances. Let’s list what the conditions to get a really good looking image are:

lens correction filter for shots made at 10 meters (30 feet), and even with this the distortion is sufficiently complex that there is some residual waviness left after this correction. If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 12" (30cm) wide on your screen, then the complete image printed at this same insanely high magnification would be about 40 × 60" (1 × 1.5 meters). Its 9-bladed diaphragm gives 18-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light at moderate and small apertures. Stopping down to f/2 the sharpens up quite a lot and becomes a lot more contrasty. As is to be expected. Optimal sharpness is achieved at f/5.6-f/8, but who on earth buys a 98USD 50mm f/1.2 lens to shoot it at f/8?….. yeah…didn’t hink so either! I believe SHURE is better, but WESTONE is made in USA and they offer a 2 years warranty, reason why they are more expensive than SHURE.

So sorry for the late reply! I hope you’re doing good! Thanks for reading my review. It means a lot, and it’s great to hear from you! Must have big bugs on quality for the future such as degradation of optical elements and mechanic elements, Like many classic LEICA rangefinder lenses it cannot focus closely. It only can focus as close as 3.3 feet or 1 meter.

First impressions were awesome. The TTArtisan 50mm f/0.95 did just good. Rangefinder calibration seems great and the pictures all came out sharp, detailed and full of that 3D pop you carve for while using such a bright lens. I haven’t been annoyed by any flaring or any flaw that would make my pictures bad, except my own skills obviously, ha.Stopping down yields steady improvements and by f/2.0 the performance is good to very good.
