As the Masterpiece Optimus Prime mold has been has re-released multiple times, so too has Megatron. He was made available again without changes as an accessory for Takara's MP-4, " Convoy Perfect Edition" and MP-1L, " Convoy Last Production", and Hasbro's " DVD Edition", but has also been redecoed several times: these distinct new versions of Megatron are listed below. Needless to say, he doesn't transform, but can be held by Starscream in both modes. Megatron's handle disconnects to reveal a peg, which can then be inserted into either of Starscream's fists, which were specifically resculpted for this purpose. Each fist also features a tab on its underside, into which Megatron's handle can be inserted, completing the effect. Megatron can also attach to Starscream's jet mode; the right-hand side of Megatron's handle features a square peg which is designed to fit snugly in gaps in Starscream's pectorals, as in the Generation 1 episode, " S.O.S. Dinobots". Unfortunately, this peg has, for no fathomable reason, been cast in the same sky blue color as Starscream's hands, unnecessarily making it as obtrusive as humanly possible. An additional tabbed right fist for Optimus Prime (complementing his then-upcoming Transformers Collection Convoy release) was included as well. Despite the change to the toy's colors, the box art on this set, the same art used for the Hasbro releases, was recolored to match the blue of the previous releases. Whoops.

The toy suffers from a number of unusual shortcomings, and proved a rather hefty shelfwarmer. Notably, due to a large number of design flaws, it is known to fall apart very easily, with the crotch coming undone with minimal force and the arms and legs often popping off over the course of basic transformation or even movement. In particular, the lower body is attached to the torso by very thin open clips, unsuited for holding up the weight of entirely die-cast legs, and the lower arms, which need to be pulled out, are extremely liable to disconnect from their balljoints rather than extending properly. Many of the joints are also extremely loose, owing to both poor construction and the excessive weight of the limbs. Needless to say, the later-released Masterpiece Starscream (and his redecoes) can also hold this version of Megatron, and each include a small round clip that plugs in under their nosecones, allowing them to wield Megatron while in jet mode, as Starscream did in " S.O.S. Dinobots". Megatron returned as an Action Master in 1990, and as with most Action Master figures, he could not transform. His sculpt was based heavily upon the character's animation model design. Megatron is compatible with all other Action Master accessories and vehicles. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. This toy was used as " Gold Megatron," Megatron's super-iest duper-iest super mode in the Generations Selects Special Comic.

His design is mostly based on Generation 1 Megatron, but with angles and styling very evocative of War for Cybertron Megatron. He has multiple peg-holes all over that can be used to mount any Hero Mashers accessory. As a first-wave figure, he has extra ankle articulation that is not present in later waves (a cut that was made to all Hero Mashers lines, not just the Transformers-branded ones). The Kreon Class of 1984 version of Megatron is even more toy-based tampographs than his prior versions, including his face detailing. Yes, it's a whole new tampograph layout. He's also mostly in metallic silver plastic, yet his helmet remains light flat gray. This mold was redecoed into the purple Megalligator ( see below), released individually to be his own character Megalligator and a different redeco was proposed for the unproduced Albitron.
