Dorset, 1933: Grace Hamblin is growing up on a beautiful rural estate. The only child of the beekeeper, she knows her place and her future—until her father dies unexpectedly and leaves her bereft and alone. Beekeeper's Daughter" -- colorful and catchy". Clark Chronicle. Archived from the original on 15 April 2013 . Retrieved 13 March 2012. Reachable only by small plane or boat, the island of Tekanasset is cut off from the rest of the country, so that while the Industrial Revolution changed the face of America, it missed Tekanasset altogether, leaving the quaint, Quaker-inspired buildings and cobbled streets as they had always been, and allowing the island to settle into a sleepy, wistful rhythm where old-fashioned values blended harmoniously with the traditional architecture.

It was a lovely story about love, family and relationships, but it's also a bit of a tired cliche to put the poor worker with the rich aristocrat and moan about duty and class. I enjoyed the interactions between Grace and Rufus, but I wanted more depth.

Our Mission

Heartwarming and believable.... [T]he perfect book to remind the reader of how love in the moment is all consuming, yet provides a wonderful memory and lessons later in life. Combining the age old struggle between good and evil with the passion and romance of the characters she creates. Protagonist, Annabel Taylor, a beekeeper’s daughter, grows up wild and carefree on the moors of Exmoor, England in a cottage on the landowner’s property of Gothelstone Estate in the late 1860s. She is becoming aware of supernatural abilities inherited from her late mother, a beautiful witch.

Song review: The All-American Rejects - Beekeeper's Daughter". Stitched Sound. February 2012 . Retrieved 3 March 2012.However, the author’s account of Grace as a daughter and as a mother is appreciable. Those scenes make this story emotional. Oh, she’s a wonderful gardener,” Belle added emphatically. “The gardens of Tekanasset were all very ordinary before she arrived from England and transformed them with her wonderful taste and expertise.” This was a sweet "comfort" zone read for me. Love story, England, gardens, bees, blah, blah, blah. All the stuff that makes me happy. And it did make me happy except I didn't buy the ending. The author tried to sell us on the idea that Grace loved Freddie her whole life when clearly that wasn't the case. If she really did, why would she hold onto all those old letters from Rufus? and hide them so she could reread them in private?? It made no sense. Plus the sobbing when she discovered who Jasper was?? Definitely not an over & done with fling!

Rufus, Grace’s love interest turns out to be joyful and fun-loving. On the other hand, I was a bit confused about the love story of Rufus and Grace. Especially when it turns out to be infidelity. Even Though their romance is one of the main themes, I couldn’t really conclude whether it was a love or infatuation. Later in the novel, Grace admits that it’s the latter. Meanwhile, throughout his life, Rufus was agonizing his love for Grace. I am passionate about nature. I am at my happiest in beautiful places like forests, woods, beaches, and mountains. I think we all are. That still, silent, eternal part of nature resonates with the still, silent eternal part of us and connects us to our true natures beyond ego. When I’m in nature, all the petty worries I have dissolve and I ponder the big questions. I use nature a lot in my novels to help my characters evolve on a spiritual level. Writing about nature from my office in London makes me feel good. It’s like a meditation. If I can’t be in it, I’ll imagine that I am! I hope it uplifts or touches my readers, too.years after, Gracie’s daughter Trixie Valentine is also in love with a man but unexpected events split them apart. No, this poem was in a bee book I was given. I thought it was very sweet so I put it at the front of the book. I think the bees in my novel would have been fascinated by all the goings-on! I would honestly say they’re as bad as each other.” Grace smiled indulgently. “But they’re having fun, Big, and Trixie’s in love for the first time.” Grace and Freddie are both holding on to the past and harboring secrets. Why do you think they keep their secrets for so long? Are there other characters with hidden pasts?

Many thanks to Dorothy Huges of The Dirty Dogs Book Club who submitted this book—and the Reading Guide —to LitLovers. On a scale of one to five billion, how romantic was this novel? Five billion, without a doubt. Oh my goodness, book lovers, I finished The Beekeeper's Daughter by Santa Montefiore in the stupidly early hours of this morning, and I do not regret it one single bit, because it was absolutely incredible, and I freaking adored it. To a private concert they were giving in Cape Cod for a friend of Joe Hornby, who’s in the industry.”The whole town is talking about them, Evelyn. They’re handsome young British boys, and polite, too, I believe.” She smiled at the sour look on Evelyn’s face. “They’re spending the summer here at Joe Hornby’s place.” Grace looked beaten. “Duty,” she muttered, and Big detected a bitter edge to her voice. “I do hate that word.” The author does a beautiful job at describing the setting in both 1932 England and 1973 Massachusetts and even later and I really enjoyed that aspect of the story. I could see both places and picture myself there. Both places sounded absolutely beautiful. Significant historical events are somewhat glazed over making the story more about the romances and less about the history. I only say this because it may appeal more to readers of the romance genre over historical fiction fans. Oh, I wasn’t always so well behaved.” She smiled wistfully at the memory of the girl she used to be. “Once I was even quite rebellious. But that was a long time ago.” She turned her gaze to the sea again. England, 1933: Grace is growing up on a beautiful rural estate. The only child of the beekeeper, she knows her place and her future until her father dies, leaving her bereft and alone. Alone, that is, except for the man she loves, whom she knows she can never have.
