About this deal

As with most things, this robustness comes at a price and the price is an increase in weight when compared to plastic only models. Don’t let that put you off, it’s light enough for almost all to handle. With a bit of adjustment, the harness that comes with the strimmer helps to make the machine feel lighter than its 9.15kg. The handlebar design helps to keep the weight load spread out evenly too.

There is no need to mix your fuel with oil, you can simply use ordinary unleaded petrol. The fuel tank has a large opening for easier refuelling and it is translucent so you can see when it’s topping up time. Fuel capacity is half a litre and overall fuel consumption is miles better than a 2 stroke if you can afford it. The nylon cutting wire works well and has a tap and go line feed head to keep your grass trimming session as uninterrupted as possible. Again, this functions as it should and without issue, and renewing the strimmer line won’t have you tearing your hair out in frustration.

Basically, petrol strimmers are better suited to people who either have larger gardens or who are looking for something to use commercially. They are noisier and smokier, but they are also much more powerful and get the job done in a fraction of the time when compared to cordless strimmers. McCulloch has taken into consideration the fact that petrol strimmers shake a fair bit when operating at high revs, and have installed an anti-vibration system that sits just under the engine, a nice touch and to be expected of a higher quality piece of kit. This is one of the better anti-vibration features that I’ve seen, and when compared to most of the trimmers I’ve had in the past, there was a significant reduction in shaking. After use, the shaft splits in two which makes the unit easier to transport and store away in tiger spaces.

The Stanley STR-750A petrol strimmer has a lot of features that I really liked, and unfortunately one or two that I wasn’t so crazy about. They can be a little too powerful. Unless you really need the strength of a petrol model, they may be more difficult to manage than it’s worth. Vibrations can also make them uncomfortable over extended periods. This model features two cutting speeds: Eco and Turbo. To use, hold in the ‘on' button for a few seconds and it will default to Eco mode which is ample for most strimming needs. If the grass is really long or straw like, switch it to Turbo mode and it’ll slice through it like butter. It’s a professional grade petrol strimmer and is designed with ergonomic bicycle handles which are comfortable to use even for extended periods. To make the job even easier this petrol model comes with a harness to help evenly distribute the weight of it and saves fatigue.Lastly, we have a touch of luxury with a real Lamborghini. No, it’s not a car! This brushcutter has an air-cooled, optimised two-stroke engine that can power through long grass and weeds with low fuel consumption. There is no difference between a strimmer and a trimmer! The terms are used interchangeably, although strimmer is the more colloquial term. This model comes with an interchangeable battery system which can be used with multiple Bosch products. It has an 18 V battery which can be used to power all 18 V Bosch tools, this is ideal if you’ve got a number of Bosch garden tools, as just one battery will be able to power all of them. There’s no limit on how long mains-powered strimmers can be used for – it doesn’t have a battery to run down and won’t need refuelling. Of course, the motor may need a bit of time to cool down during extended use.

Remember that larger engines often result in a heavier unit. So, to control a powerful strimmer with a 52 cc engine you need to be quite confident in your physical ability. Starting a Petrol Strimmer Despite having a 25 cc engine, at only 3.9kg it’s the best lightweight petrol strimmer on our list. For those who are worried about managing heavier weights, but still want something with plenty of power, it’s a great option. At 2.6 kg, it remains very lightweight and easy to manage. This is helped by the fact that it feels well balanced, although it may still get tiring to use after long periods of time. Look for interchangeable heads, for different kinds of mowing. Most strimmers will display their noise and vibration output, which he

No matter the size of your garden, you might find that there are small areas where it’s impossible to take a mower. Most strimmers have a cutting width of around 40 cm, so they can still struggle to get into tighter spaces, but the Einhell Two Stroke Brush Cutterhas a blade attachment of 25.5 cm. It’s one of the best machines for manoeuvring into narrow spots. A U-shaped shaft handle offers a place for one hand to hold the strimmer. The other hand is positioned higher up on the shaft of the strimmer. This means that hands are positioned one behind the other in a linear fashion. This may seem more intuitive to some, but is a posture that can take its toll if the strimmer is heavy and used for an extended period. Generally, it seems this model is quieter than competing petrol strimmers, which might make it a bit more ‘neighbour friendly’, especially if you’re fond of working the early mornings or evenings.

This also makes it a lot more noisy, running at 108 dB, and it has higher vibration. It’s a serious machine, so ear defenders are certainly required. The harness that comes with this petrol garden strimmer is a high quality, double shoulder straps type, is very comfortable and even has a stomach pad. The harness does a great job of distributing the weight out evenly and makes the 10kg feel considerably lighter than it is. A beautifully balanced piece of machinery. For the price, you pay you to get the battery and charger included as well as a line trimmer head, brush cutter blade, shoulder strap and various tools you need to get you going. The shaft is strong yet lightweight like the motor and the whole strimmer only weighs just over 5kg. This makes it easy to move around and control with the compact D-shaped loop handle without the need for a harness, although I’d still recommend using one if you’re doing anything but the smallest of jobs. If you look around, you can probably get a free harness when you buy one of Ryobi’s attachments. Many of the best petrol strimmers offer 2-in-1 functionality . They come with two head attachments: a cutting-line head and a brush-cutter head. This improves the tool’s versatility, allowing you to cut an array of vegetation.
